@tonyme, @Ramsaye, @Doctor_Cake & @blowfish were lucky enough to head over to Koksijde to watch the second round of the UIC cyclocross world cup.
Contrast to the UK, the weather was amaze - blue sky, warm & dry as a bone - so the course - always extreme and guaranteed spectacle - was super quick grasstrack and super sketchy ankle deep sand.
We'd been to Koksijde last year but this was Tony's first foray into 'proper' cross and it was good to see his mind blown by the scale of the event, the facilities - chips, beer, sausage, an curiously intimate open air toilets - and the passion of the crowd. And the heckling.
There was a strong GBR line up for the womens race with Helen Wyman, Nicki Harris, Gabriella Durrin and Hannah Payton mixing it up with the Elite Europeans and a strong US contingent.
Helen appeared to have an awful start but clawed her way back up to ninth place, four places behind Nicki who put in a cracking ride. Gabriella also placed well in 14th with just missing out on the points in 30th.
The elite mens race was won by Wout Van Aert who soloed the victory pretty much from the starting gun, lapping up to 38th of 54 places and several points takers. Kevin Pauwels followed him home with Mathieu van der Poel making up the third spot.
US champ Jeremy Powers looked strong and finished 17th, just two slots behind Sven Nys with a back gridded UK champ Ian Field coming in 24th after finishing the first lap in 40th place.
The next round is held - for the first time EVAR - in the UK, Milton Keynes, so please get yourselves up / down there and support our riders battle it out with the best in the world and make it an event to remember.

Anyone else racing today?

No. Two weak. Could have schlepped it to Harlington but the thought of a muddy course pre-ruined by the Vets and Ladies field after an hours travel...no.

Did you get a hand model to hold the beer? That is a well groomed thumb.

Yup, racing in Bristol at Warmley. Finally made it round without a mechanical... Bit on the muddy side...

I raced in a lake in Sussex. Much dampness. So soggy.
Got 6th though.

Who's going to Milton Keynes next Saturday? I'll have 3 seats up for grabs in car, if I do go.

Yeah, best SSCX outing yet in Scouseland today. 3rd ever cx race, and first time getting muddy and crashing. One descent was like a muddy flume, and I chickened/fell-off 3/4 times. In the last few as usual, but successfully smoked someone's dad with a final muddy sprint.

Same organiser, different venue this year. Basically a field next to two lakes, with a loop around one of the lakes, and some zig-zagging through the field. It was absolutely sodden, I did a total of 6.4 miles in 47 minutes racing, so averaging 8 mph. There was mud, but on the whole it was so wet, it just fell off the bike. I was covered though.
In a way, I'm a bit disappointed with 6th as on the start line I thought I might have a chance of a podium finish, but I've had a cold all week and wasn't at my best. I had to dig in and hang on to the battle for 5th, with three others, but managed to come round a bit and hang on for 6th. Which is still my best result of the season.
Good to see @owlz and @J.Dennis braving the conditions too.

Horrific in Sussex today! Managed to find the crater on the first corner. On the upside, the amount of water meant the bike isn't in too bad of a state.

Hello flandrian facial fanatics.
I'm doing a small design project for my course and am looking for a small cross-section of different cycling afficionados to respond to some questions. It aint for profit and the final product is a visual graph of the data.
If you'd be so kind as to take a few minutes to respond I can guarantee* that you will never ever crash on a descent ever again and your remount time will be halved.
questions here http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/258652/#comment11958407
much appreciate
*terms and conditions apply. limited time only.

Why did I decide to run the first grassy section on the first lap? After failing a remount in that mud I was dead last. Managed to slowly claw back places but the effort cost me and I struggled for the last two laps.
Still, had a lot of fun in the ridiculous conditions and the two fellas who went for a swim at the end of the race made my day! -

My kit smelt of cow shit when I got home.
