You should get a Platform Ticket to retrieve your bike.
If you're using officially designated bike storage facilities, you could ask the station manager what you should do. This way if any Revenue Protection Inspectors block you, you can legitimately refer them to the manager.

Train stops on one platform, go through barrier.
Bike is locked on another platform so go through that platform's barrier.
Unlock bike & head off to work, get stuck behind the barrier.
Not that fussed about the mornings as I'm in no real hurry to get to work but the return journey is a bit of a rush.
