I've seen you recently, you can't be that heavy!

  • Awesome!

Nerged for not using Tumblr tho.

  • I went out with VCL for their sunday club run, my first club run. Was with the medium(ish) group. Lovely new route for me roughly around Westerham and Knockholt, and nice to see some familiar faces. Pretty much a perfect day for it (though the group could have used a few more mudguards, myself included). Anyone looking for a club in South London I'd really recommend them. Full range of abilities, track, xcross, road, racing. Wicked club.

However group road riding isn't for me. I think it might be that I know I'm too naturally slow to ever be properly fast, and that being the case it's too hard to enjoy the scenery when you have to be vigilant in a group. Ah well, good experience though. Back to small group fixed/SS and track for me!

  • Nice! Will have to plan a similar one next year myself.
Congrats! Which bike did you use?

  • VCL are great Dan. I also introduced stepchild to Herney Hill, plus bought her a cyclocross bike.. you can see where this is heading, right?

I managed a feeble spin out to RP on Saturday, first weekend outing since Styrkepröven in June,
I need to get more miles in before I depart for winter retreat in the tropics.

Hope to join you and VCL in the new year.

  • I was down in Rugby seeing some friends that I do pedalcar racing with. Owing to a minor bit of timetable misreading, I missed my last train back to Sheffield from Birmingham. Ended up on a train that got me as far as Derby and rode home from there.

Not brilliant because I was carrying a heavy backpack at the time and couldn't really do much stand up climbing or fast descending. It was still a pretty good ride though. I left Derby at around 23.15 and after a bit of difficulty finding the road I wanted to be on getting out of the city I was away up the B roads through Denby and Ripley to Alfreton and the A61 back to Sheffield. I had the pleasure of a full moon and wisps of mist floating across nice empty roads most of the way.

    The late night cultural oddities of Derbyshire included;

    • skipping with a length of chain nicked off a parking lot on the edge of Derby
    • The young Fiesta owners club seem to run a Fight Club in the Car Park of Lidl in Ripley
    • Leaning out of your car and screaming at anything that moves in Alfreton
    • Sprinting back and forth across the road between kebab shops in Clay Cross

It's the first time I've ridden through Chesterfield and been glad to be in somewhere progressive and cosmopolitan.

Tailwind all the way and home by 3am. Worst part of it for me was that between Denby and Sheffield the road is illuminated all the way. It saddens me that we feel the need to install street lighting on long stretches of what are essentially rural roads. Colossal waste of energy, money and unnessecarily adding to light pollution.

  • That'd be great Al. Been meaning to text you to say that I'm glad you're ok after your spill. Once you get sorted in the new year and when it's a little warm I'll bring the new bairn down to the track and you can say hello.

  • Which bike did you use?

I took my road bike with panniers. It was a bit rear-heavy and I could have done with chunkier tyres on the many off road sections I sent myself down... but it all worked out!

  • I look forward to meeting new bairn, at Herne Hill.
We depart for Colombia 5 December, back 8 January.
I'll send Rigoberto your regards, take care mister.

  • You must spread rep in the Midlands before spreading any more rep in London etc

  • I drank beer on Sat and rode 300k on Sunday. Forecast said clear - forecast lied.

  • Were there hills and stuff? Ouch.

  • Only little ones as I started in London.

  • Found a not too boring route with yx100<z in the neighbourhood

    (Y = distance, Z=elevation)

  • Lewisham - London Bridge - Lap of Richmond Park - Vauxhall - Lewisham. 40 miles.
6/10 - Muddy. Bike dirty. Good coffee at RP cafe. Lots of deer gazers preventing me going sub 20 min lap. Light drizzle.

  • 108 miles from Herne hill over toys hill etc to ashdown forest, over ardingly reservoir, and back home via box hill. Punishingly lumpy. I am tired.

  • I had 2.5 yrs at a school in Clay Cross, crazy place. About a year after I left someone set a classmate on fire after he'd been sniffing petrol fumes one evening. Awful :(

  • Bit foggy in the Peaks, Edale to Hope section of Mam Tor Classic, some nice riding. Found some 'shrooms, reckon we need more rain.
