Although not officially sanctioned by the UCI, it is open to people from around the world. The World Series is so called because it was initially sponsored by a newspaper called The World. It is not an attempt to hold a world-wide competition, even if Canadians join in. Canadians are, in any event, in the minds of everyone but themselves, American.
Hippy is World Champ in the same way that Cassius Clay/Mohammed Ali was World Champ.
