  • I don't actually need a camera of this level, as I am still very happy with my D600, but after I've left Hong Kong this time, I probably won't be back again for a long while... and I will be shipping loads of stuff this time, thought it'd make sense to buy all that I want / can afford...

    Hummmm.... decision time...

  • Not a bad idea, anyone know if Nikon do any good DLSR's for video?

  • Let's just say that I'm not a huge fan of it.

  • Fair enough, it seems a lot of my non-photographer love it, but I'm not a huge fan. I thought my image up thread was less cheesy than most but then I would.... it's mine :)

  • Jesus bloody christ.

    Lawyers.

    No cash?

The cheek of some people. This has really boiled my blood.

  • It's a very commercial picture. I can see you printing a few posters like that and selling them at car shows / owners meets, putting the image on a card, or selling it to a dealership for promotional materials. That kind of thing.

I think non-photographers love that style - it looks like "magic". And I don't know how to do it, so I think it's "magic" too.

  • Do you need 36mp? If not the D750 is awesome.

  • I hear the 800 and 750 are good, but I'd have no idea what's good regarding video. I did a test the other day and it seemed fine.

  • Not really, I am aware of the potential issues 36mp will bring - needing a faster computer, more storage space to name a few... but I want a 'truly' future proof camera at this stage as I am begining to take my photography more seriously...

Besides, aint the D600 (I have), D610 and D750 somewhat similar?

  • You can do massive prints with your D600 already, depends what kind of photography you do?

    D800's are awesome though.

  • Anyone have a Nikon 50mm 1.8 they want to get rid of? I haven't shot a single pic in months and I feel dead inside.

  • I've got a series E knocking about somewhere...

  • Ahh, lovely piece of glass indeedy, alas, as I'm practically half bat as it is, I really need the AF.

  • A few from the phone.

  • Holy shit. Time to merge the mobile photo thread methinks.

  • I'm with you...
this has been discussed in on of the "suggestions" threads before, to make it short: of the people that joined the discussion I was one of the very very few who thought merging was due.
The vast majority wanted it to stay like it is.

  • @spotter DSLR's are currently not in trend in the video world at the moment primarily as other companies have put out much more interesting offerings with the Panasonic GH4, Sony A7s and Black Magic Cinema with their cameras. Focus has always been an issue and only just about sorted out on some of the Canon models I'm not sure about Nikon. The biggest issue though is sound and the lack of monitoring and XLR inputs. Codecs also have been hampered and led to hackwares such as Magic Lantern gaining a loyal following. But at the end of the day they are just tools. Depending on what type of video you'll be producing should dictate what you look at. DSLR's will not be ideal if you are filming conferences or presentations as they can't film uninterrupted for long periods. The older models would just stop filming and the newer models will split the large file into 3-4 files which may be problematic for some uses.

  • Excuse the holiday snaps, but here's a few from Barcelona. (first proper trip with the Fujifilm X20)

Monjuïc, Basiílica de Santa Maria del Pi, Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Monjuïc again

  • Love the reflected shot.
I had a similar idea with much less dramatic architecture.

  • The reason I sold off the X20 was that I found it too, um painterly.
Not lack of detail, but it seemed that often there was some simplification going on in the rendering.
Or maybe I just didn't have the patience to learn that camera.

  • cheers, I'm sure there was a location for the camera where the lines of the reflection would better match the actual building in my shot, but that point was probably a couple of metres up in the air and over the edge of the walkway... I was just passing by...

Re: the X20, I love it actually, I'm not a pro and it's my only camera bar my smartphone...

  • I got to try a D800 yesterday that my dad had borrowed from work. Paired with the 85mm 1.8.

What a beast. I still maintain that the 6D is better for my usage (and hard drive) but holy shit the files are nice at base iso. The canon has a clear edge above iso 800.
