You didn't. I just thought it was worth pointing out it was ... you know ...

He's talking about Remembrance Day, which is by coincidence, today, a memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the first World War (and second I think), it's a UK/Commonwealth thing.

I ended up with 70mm bb drop, 73.5 head tube, 1010mm axel to axel slammed 40/21T. 1030mm 40/19T in the photos. Quite pleased with the handling. Even with the slight toe overlap.
That sound pretty good going, 70mm BB drop is pretty low for a CX, what's your advantage behind this?
-
• #2630
It really isn't, Ed.
-
• #2631
Alright. Didn't know.
I wanted low bb as I have only had cx bikes with fairly high bbs. I wanted to get faster handling out of corners as I struggle with this on ss.
Simply I believe the lower balance point will give me better control. I do not fear pedal strike even though I am on 175 arms and bb height from ground is ca 275mm to center bb. -
• #2632
Really? I usually see them around 65mm.
-
• #2633
Not many off the peg carbon frames at 70-75mm I think. Not many with steep head tubes either. Maybe I am doing it wrong :-) but so far IT handles great and I am super excited for tomorrows cx training.
-
• #2634
I was wrong. BB drop is 75mm ;-)
Shitty drawing but you get the idea.
-
• #2635
Wow, that's nearly as much as my LHT had ( 78mm ).
Low BBs are fun though :-)

A butchered mech should be able to operate as a push-up if the chosen sprocket size would have been acceptable at the equivalent position in a cassette.
An MTB mech might give you more clearance.
-
• #2637
So shift the mech in towards the wheel if you need increased space between the cog and jockey wheel?
-
• #2638
I think it's the other way round.
Shifting the mech inwards toward the wheel increases the space between cog and jockey. -
• #2639
lol, that's what I've written.
-
• #2640
...exactly.

• #2641
...asshole

• #2642
Comprehension fail on my part.
Much apologies. Many regret. Wow. Asshole.

hehehe #lfgssholes

• #2644
Yes, but that messes with the chainline.

This looks fun
Quoted for new page, because it's fucking rad and looks perilously close to 'the answer'.
If one were to build this kind of bike and want- ability to use a medium-travel sus fork
- ability to use a 1x10spd geared and SS drivetrain
what dropout-type would be ideal? Something sliding?
What would be a good frameset to start with? - ability to use a medium-travel sus fork
-
• #2646
True. I guess you'd only be able to go so far inwards before that became an issue.
3/32" 8/9sp chains work fine so it's not essential the chainline is perfect.

• #2647
Yeah never thought of doing that actually, thanks! Going to experiment later this week. Currently doing an SS conversion on my Cube Agree GTC Pro, blasphemy? Probably, but the 105/ultegra stuff is being donated to the better half's bike :)

• #2648
A custom one? ss mtb?
-
• #2649
Maybe something like the Soma B-Side might fit the bill, but with a longer ST. Slightly less 'dirt-jump' geo.

On One Scandal with the swapouts?
It's intended for 29" wheels.
Arhhh. This is the internet. I am neither into wars or nazis. Sorry if I offended you.
