  • Tricross headset

Probably a Specialized proprietary "hiddenset" or whatever they decided to call it that year. My Sirrus had a similar thing, where the cups were hidden and almost impossible to remove. The cages are different sizes top and bottom, I'd remove them both and replace with loose balls, will feel much better.

  • Cheers for this.. been searching the Specialized website with no joy... it is the worst headset I have ever had the displeasure to have owners. Grinding, stiff, full of ooze and detritus. Fookin shite.
Not sure replacing with loose BBs will be a great deal better but what choice do we have...

  • You can always go to a Specialized reseller, such as Evans Cycles to get a replacement, especially since they service (do they still do this?) them there.

  • When I opened mine, the bottom cage had completely disintegrated (I probably left it a bit long before changing it!) Loose balls and a fuck-ton of lube got me through the last 6 months of ownership, just a pain to set-up!

Evans might give you a new set of caged bearing, but I would be very surprised if they go anywhere near those cups. The specialized franchise I spoke to didn't even acknowledge they existed.
