My 2 cents: I have 29er WTB Speed Disc All Mountain 21mm rims on my Pompetamine (135mm rear axle) with 33c maxxis CX tyres and there is not much space left (no way for mudguards!).
And 35c Kojak tyres on my Pompino V4 (120mm rear axle) - the remaining space is too thin for SKS bluemels mudguards (but almost, grr)...
