  • He took the joke with good humour and put out a pretty clever video. Good on him. But it avoids the larger critique. What is he actually saying (new)? What is he aiming to achieve? What is he claiming needs to be done? His pseudo-intellectual sex-powered-populism is not a solution as far as I can tell.

  • You don't have to prove anything to this lot m8!

  • Daily Mail sandwich joke is quite fun

  • Massive rep for Kev.
    RIP Repsystem.

  • The real reason our post-crash make-the-poor-pay-for-the-mistakes-of-the-rich society no longer provides people who know how to make a sandwich is to stop Brand's revolution even getting started: http://www.trueactivist.com/gab_gallery/the-revolution-needs-you-a-message-from-russell-brand/

  • I can't stand him. I understand what he's saying and some makes sense, some doesn't, but I like him more after seeing the media slag him off above and beyond what's necessary. The Sunday Times reviewed his book and called him a hypocrite for, er, earning money, and The Mail said:

"Brand attended a protest at billionaire property developers' plans for East London, conveniently forgetting he owns TWO houses"!

Eh? What was he supposed to do, carry a sign saying "I have two houses"?

  • Is it different from what they'd do to anyone else? (honest question). I think living by your principles is admirable, and I understand that some people do a better job of it than others (I have been a vegetarian for probably more than half of my life now, but I am fucking terrible at it). However, he does seem to lack the, even basic, self-reflection one would hope a potential "leader" would have. I obviously don't know the dude, but he scares me a bit. I think he'd be very comfortable wearing all of Gadfi's lovely outfits.

Maybe I'm wrong about the guy, but everything he does just reinforces this view. I like the idea of him raising awareness (although I'm not convinced he's actually speaking to anyone other than the converted). Mostly, however, I'm just not sure what he's suggesting be done.

(How do you make something a reply after posting it? Anyway @spindrift )

  • He doesn't seem to have a problem with self-reflection. He's an ex-addict, they rank high for introspection, I reckon. He's not really setting himself up as leader either. I ask myself why he's bothering, he's getting loads of grief when he could live quietly shagging groupies, and the vitriol aimed at him makes me think he's causing powerful people to slightly shit their pants.

    ETA, posted before dubkev, soz.

so you're a vegetarian that eats meat then?

I was reminded of Jonathan Meese, don't ask me why,

  • Getting off of the smack (and whatever else) is obviously an impressive, great, awesome, worthy, healthy thing to do, but I don't understand what you're saying in regard to self-reflection. Lots of people stop doing harmful things to themselves for lots of reasons. Sometimes personal, sometimes because the way it hurts others. Probably often a combination of things. However, it could just as easily be related to narcissism, if we want to be amateur-psychologists about it. And the way he sells that part of his life...

And not many people write manifestos who don't consider themselves leaders. In fact, I'm fairly certain I've heard him refer to himself as a leader. And there was talk about him running for mayor.

  • Is this Facebook or something? Please, tell me how you feel about that thing.... I want to know.

  • Ate some curly fries today, LOL.

  • Such moaning. Sans lol. Very whine.

Russel Brand would have much to say about you lot!

  • ActuaLOLOLOL!!!!

  • Post of the week...

  • It was pretty funny when it was done four days ago, as well.

    And then again yesterday.

  • What is he actually saying (new)?

Why does he have to be saying something new? Not all know things have been tried. Not all people have heard and considered all the things that have already been said.

  • For Kev:

Why does he have to be saying something new? Not all know things have been tried. Not all people have heard and considered all the things that have already been said.

Sorry, what I meant (and why there were two further questions): The complaints he's raising are not new (largely issues around inequality). So you would think he'd be proposing solutions. I haven't seen these yet (but maybe I'm not looking hard enough). So he continues to raise the same issues which most people are aware about (and have been since at least the emergence of the Occupy movement), but I'm not seeing any solutions being offered. This is the critique of him. He's a bit of a windbag. The Ukip of the left.

  • Talking of cunts... i only just found out about the existence of this uber-cunt

  • Moar memes, less feels please.
