• Well that was a very old post you found. The ring was the stock ring that comes with the s300 crankset. So 3/32 width, deeper teeth and no shift pins and ramps like you get on a geared chainring. Chain never feel off.

    Got on with it just fine, have been on double ring for a few years now though as single is a bit crap when you get to >10% or so

  • Cool, I was interested in doing it because there aren't a whole lot of hills here in the Netherlands. And because I like the clean look / weight savings / simplicity, not worth the cost if I'd need a narrow / wide ring but I'll give it a go. Cheers

  • Yep it will be fine. Just make sure you get a chainring designed for single speed use and it should be fine. Mind you, this was all on a 9 speed setup. Could be an issue for say 11speed which use a wider cassette
