• Here's the 'Grammar of Design' Grand Seiko 6145-8000 that took me about 3 years to find. Search parameters were:

    • It had to have been made in 1969, not just 1969 but March 1969.
    • It had to have an unpolished, original, case. A problem with these and many vintage Grand Seikos is that they get machine polished to hell to remove scratches, sadly this also ruins the sharp case edges by softening them.
    • The gold medal had to be intact and unblemished. Again these were often prised out and sold. Or they got ruined if the wearer had acidic sweat and had worn it for years or decades.
    • I had to find a genuine, unused, high-end Seiko strap from the same period.
    • It all had to come together with an original Grand Seiko buckle. The type that the watch would have come with when originally sold.

I saw many, many, models that had 1 or 2 parameters missing or were untenable. This is the final piece. It may not look like much but a lot of thought and effort has gone into it. It was serviced a week ago, the automatic movement is in excellent condition and is currently running at +2 seconds per day. Enjoy:

  • I love that, I wish I gave purchases such consideration. I never knew how sharp and defined the case edges should be.

I think I dropped a bollock on a goth Citizen bullhead without realising the prevelence of fake dials, not too expensive a mistake but feel stupid for not doing enough research. It'll look Ok with a NATO and will probably recoup the dollar on fleabay. Must. Not. Bid. When. Under. The. Influence.
