  • I have no idea. Is this just one joint? Or are they on all of them? Try applying a load to spread the crack and see if it does.

Ask look for a start, although they can be very slow. @mdcc_tester might have an opinion.

    Personally, I would be nervous.

  • +Hovis It's both where the downtube and toptube meet the headtube.
Might put wheels on tonight and sit on it.

  • How about the top tube to seat tube, or down tube to BB area? If not, then to me that suggests it's not normal, and that something bad has happened to the front end.

  • Looks dodgy to me, shame as it's a lovely looking frame

  • It's very uniform, which suggests it might just be due to the paint cracking caused by movement around the lug.

It's probably worth getting checked out though, for peace of mind as much as anything.

  • Just sat on the toptube and no movement whatsoever.
Might take it up to Ratrace tomorrow to see what the consensus is.
If I do keep it, what a awesome pair they'll be. There'll be no mistaking me in the lanes that's for sure.

My money is on this being the explanation

  • Ok, thanks everyone. I'll be passing the forum cap round for dental work when it spectacularly fails and smashes my teeth out :)

  • Paypal his ass. I reckon he has ridden front end into something.

  • What kind of fork does it have, carbon bonded to alloy steerer? I'd have a good look there too if you haven't already.

  • Damage on front end collisions tends to occur further back on the top and down tubes.

  • Yeah, that's all OK. I would just never sell anything under the premise of no cracks when it has cracks in the paint.

  • How are you planning to build it up? It'll be hard to top your 264 for me. Lovely thing, that.

  • The Cannonade SystemSix's that are carbon/alloy all do that as well - neat rings of very fine fissure in the paint right over the carbon/alloy joint.

    I reckon it'd be fine.

  • Cheers! Pancentis or similar, cx rays or race spokes, Hope RS Mono's, Rotor compacts with q rings, ergopost, not sure on saddle or stem, Ergonovas, CK headset. #destinedtobepoorforever

  • It should be fine, my KG231 which I've had from new has similar, and that's never been crashed.

    Remortgage the house!
Sure you've seen these already but there are multiple NOS KG243's available here.

  • Yeah - he's had them on and off ebay for at least 8 months. He had a 56 and a 58 which seem to have gone, so maybe someone's paid the cash. They might be NOS but a few of his stock definitely have pitting on the forks, he's got some more photos on his site somewhere I think.

I'd pay maybe €500 for a NOS one, which is definitely too much. I think he's being a little optimistic.

  • Just finished changing the groupset on my KG221 now I can start on the KG 186 yah.

    Andy

  • I would love one of these in a 56
but those prices , to much

  • 500 euro for ti look.
A bit less than I would expect. Too small for me though.

  • Good thing that it's in France. For the sake of my corridor

  • I have seriously reduced the price of my 586 UD frameset. It's almost winter bike sort of money now...
    Have a LOOK in classifieds.

  • Ignoring the simple fact that new Looks (with the nu logo) aren't nearly as desireable as the classics...is this worthy of my lust??

  • is this worthy of my lust?

Not really. There's probably a reason why you don't see any at TTs, and it can't be the price.
