  • Sheldon's table here, so you can compare "doable" and "optimal".

Ultimately, you're the only person who can tell us whether you will feel it.

Personally I wouldn't mix skinny rims with 28mm tyres again, but I didn't die!

    Or did I? Whoooo.....

  • Yeah I've seen Sheldon's table. Did you find it noticeably flaky on corners?
(Academic question now since I am also a cautious type, I'm not doing it!)

  • It's quite few years ago now and I expect the tyres were pretty basic and that they were probably at too high a pressure, but I do remember thinking something didn't feel right: squirmy and unsettling, enough to make me swap them out.

  • I ran 29mm on Mavic Aksium before, I have to inflate them a little more than I like to reduced that squirmy feel when cornering, it's only a little more comfortable than the 23mm it replaced despite bigger contact point.

I'd be better off with a 25/26mm tyres.

Having said that, a 25mm tyres on a wide rims (17mm internal) felt a lots closer to a 28mm at the same pressure without the squriming.
