Had my first Mod 1 lesson today on a Yamaha XJ6. Really easy bike to ride, weirdly - much easier to maneuver round the cones than the CG125's. Perhaps put that down to a smoother clutch and low centre of gravity. Never got out of 2nd gear unfortunately - that'll have to be next lesson.

Bigger bikes seem to handle better. Bigger tyres, increased stability, etc

On iPlayer until Monday night.

I learnt and passed on an xj6. They're good fun.
2nd gear will still get you a long way in London :)

I can see why they make good learner bikes - really inspire confidence. There was three of us at the lesson today - I was the only one on a XJ6, the others were on a CBF500 and CBF600. Seems like it's all about luck of the draw which bike you ride for each lesson.

All those three are good bikes, most modern bikes are.

I have a top box big enough for a helmet and more with all mounting hardware that I want to shift. £20 collected from n16. PM if interest

Well that was terrifying: wind almost blows me across a lane going up Camden Road, as I'm braking for the speed camera, and a big leaf sticks to my visor at the same time. I'd have shit my pants if I'd had time.

be careful out there you lot.

Yeah; bit blustery today.
No issue when riding along but a couple of mini wobbles at the lights when a gust took hold.
It's supposed to get stronger throughout the day so will definitely take extra care on the way home.

Haven't been out on my bike since a new baby in June. Pretty sure the battery is flat. I need to get a job that is further away so that i can justify riding it to work!

Oooh - could well be interested if it's still going? What is it?

Have you got access to a trickle charger or intelli charger?
-

It's a Biketek Lugbox 11. Same as this one: http://www.bikermart.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=lugbox11
PM for further details

I reluctantly popped into Halfords today to replace some other shite iridescent 'halogen' bulbs I'd bought on eBay and was pleased to find their usually very over priced H4's were buy one get one free. I might stock up.

So there's something up with my throttle grip...
Someone fitted heated grips on it before i bought it and it looks like they've done a really shitty job:
From the inside out:
- Internal bar weight
- Bar
- Throttle body
- Heated grip
There's about a 5mm gap between the end of the throttle body and the end of the grip. I assume that is incorrect?
As the grip is heated, it's both rubber and plastic. Can i just cut back the plastic to match the throttle body length?
Finally, as i've been using the heated element this week, whatever they used to keep the grip in place has broken its bond, meaning the grip can rotate under harder twists. As the inner is plastic, will grip glue actually manage to hold it in place?
- Internal bar weight

Forgot about this thread. Passed my mod 2 on Monday.

The overhang off the end of the bar would concern me more than anything. Is there normally a bar end weight or something on there? Isn't that fouling the grip/throttle tube?
Is there not a danger that if you cut the grip back that you'll cut the heating element/wires? I don't really know how heated grips work.
I'd slide everything a bit further onto the handlebar and glue the grip to the throttle tube with some proper glue unless the bike is something obscure where you think sourcing another throttle tube if you decide to move away from the heated grips or they wear out would be a problem.

Cheers.
There was a bar end weigh on there but, as the previous owner clearly discovered, tightening it hampered with the throttle play. He did it up loosely and it fell off at some point last week; leaving me to discover this. I swapped the left hand one over to see if what it did and anything more than finger tight stopped the throttle returning.
I'm going to be installing some Acerbis handguards this weekend and they come with internal weights and spacers which should allow me to clear the end of the grip without moving the throttle up the bars. I'll pick up some super glue as well and really make sure it won't move again. It's a Honda NC700 so I really can't see finding another throttle body as being an issue.

Well done rusty.
Tut tut, how could you forget about this thread :-)

Removed, keyed and epoxeyed the throttle grip this morning. It's not going anywhere anymore!
Also fitted some acerbis wind guards. Not sure I like the look but I'm mounting the led light bar kit to them next weekend so I'll be nice and visible in the dark evenings...

Hi everyone, looking to do my CBT very soon. I'm only 16 so 50cc it is, can anyone recommend a centre? also any suggestions on cheapish first moped? thanks
I got a pair of these Sidis for £26 on eBay a few months ago. They are great and don't look mental under some jeans. I'd recommend them at full price.
