I can't be happier than I am with my set-up, gives me all I need and it's so cheap to maintain... I probably have enough kanthal to last me for the next ten years and cotton wool is so cheap it's a totally negligible expense... I think I've used two balls of it in the last three months...
Fair play to you if you wanna go down the OTP route but DIY is the way forward, IMHO, obvs..
