I've not had this pain before so thought I'd ask here.
The front of my shin just above the ankle was really painful yesterday but just my left side - do I need to do better stretching? -
• #9854
Don't want to set off alarm bells, but that's typically a sign of extensor tendinitis (google it) - I've just had it.
Have you been doing a lot more miles recently? Tends to come with over use. Typical cure is rest and stretches unfortunately

Shouldn't be cause by overuse - but I have spent the summer doing nearly all my running on treadmills. Might be time for new running shoes as well and try doing them up less tight.
It's strange I've not really suffered it before.

doing nearly all my running on treadmills.
Are you still just running on treadmills?
-
• #9857
i ran on a treadmill for 1k after my first session at my new gym to cool down and hit my daily mileage goal, fuck me it's shit.

@TW track this thursday: 2x 2mi @7:00 pace, 2x1mi @ 7:00 pace, 5 minute recoveries. fancy it?
-
• #9859
Sounds doable.
Obviously if it's cold & wet, then bollocks to that.
-
• #9860
I'll be there at 7:00. cold and wet just means it's less busy.

I was getting ready to go for a run this morning when I fell down the stairs - the whole flight, wooden stairs, ouch.
Once I checked that I was still alive I decided to make the most of the massive adrenaline rush and run away, which was fun until I realised that I really hurt and that my hand was dripping blood (a quick detour into a café to nick a napkin did the trick). I remembered that one of the selling points of my trainers was that they're meant to be grippy - made out of Continental tyres, apparently. Fuck you, Contis.

I fell down the stairs
Are you in police custody again?
-
• #9863
Now it's cold I'm back to running outside

Yay new 10k p.b on Sunday :) wasn't expecting it a week after Snowdon marathon but knocked 21 seconds off it and finished in 39:01 :)

fuck doing any exercise inside (unless its strength and conditioning) runnign outside in the cold and dark is all kinds of awesome, i've been out with a few mates and my dog tonight doing a technical session in which the main set was 10x2 minutes at 5k pace focussing on form.. it was pissing it down but great fun!
I like lock laces for all the reasons above, i've used the lock lace and 2xu brand ones happily but the greeper ones i got cause the looked cool are the worst things ever, i've retired the shoes becuase they are now so uncomfortable after probably only 100 miles...

Then it's overuse - the transition from a soft surface like a treadmill to a hard road can often lead to injuries - just ask someone that has spent a winter running XC.
You're running style will adapt over time to harder running surfaces, but you need to give it time. More, now that you have a niggle.

Fuck you, Garmin Fenix II, you are the worst device I have ever used in terms of accuracy:

Ok thanks.
I should be ok to keep running but to just keep an eye on it?
-
• #9869
Your call - you don't want to exacerbate it too much though.

Anyone use yurbud headphones? Normal ones fall out of my ears all the time (running or not) which is very annoying, so I'm trying to find some that will stay there. Do they work?
-
• #9871
I use ear hook ones from, err, Sony.
Let me find the model number: MDR-AS21J/B
They've never fallen out, but one side sometimes stops working when it gets too sweaty (I can feel the sweat in my ear, ugh).

Can I just say - isn't running at this time of year lovely? Just started again after a coupla months off, had almost forgotten how good it feels to have those zen periods when you just forget that you're actually running and don't even remember the last few miles. #runnervana

got soaked through on last nights run, was cold, wet, dark, my shoes were completely drenched by numerous puddles and my toes went completely numb.
I rather enjoyed it.

One day!

I have Philips ear hook ones, they generally stay in place though are annoying if you're wearing glasses. I also get sweaty ears (nice) but they've never stopped working.
i use nikwax wool wash for my merino and nikwax basewash & base fresh together for any non-wool sports kit.
