That's fine but if you would prefer that people who make a living from buying and selling didn't use the forum I think it should be stated somewhere?
-
• #15828
We have people on here who sell bikes to make a living. If you are found to be overcharging that is your issue. The person who sells you something is not responsible for protecting your image if you flip it for more money. Also our intra community sales are often done at mates rates. Ask @chickenleaverpuller or @jonnyrau how buying things on here and trying to make a quick buck helped their reputation.

The thing is in this case I didn't actually buy it on the forum... I bought it in Belgium and I didn't know that the seller had advertised it on here.. When I came back from Belgium with the bike I saw that when I searched it came up as for sale on the forum. I then asked the guy if he could remove it but he had already closed the thread. That is why I was trying to find out if it could be reopened.. But I do buy from here occasionally and I do ask if the seller will remove the price.

you didn't do your research, so you want to stop others doing theirs?
-
• #15831
No... I saw a bike for sale in Belgium and I bought it.. It was a simple question to see if a post could be reopened but you are welcome to turn it into whatever you like if it makes you happy.

sssshhhhh now

The odd thing here is that Mr chicken thinks that we are all angry at him for buying bikes, working on them and then making a profit.
We're not.
We're annoyed that he thinks removing the original price is an OK thing to do. It isn't. It suggests that you can't justify the profits that you make. So you need to dissemble.
Take a look at yourself Mr. Chicken, would your momma be proud of you?
-
• #15834
It was a simple question that really doesn't merit this kind of discussion. And yes my momma would have been proud of me. You don't know me - so don't judge me.
-
• #15835
If you think the price you charge for your build is fair, then what's the problem?
-
• #15836
I'm not judging you. I'm asking you to judge yourself.
If the prices are fair, which I expect they are, then no need to censor.
Can't see how you'd disagree with that?
BTW, this conversation is also public.
Noone is going to edit these posts.
Food for thought, isn't it?
-
• #15837
Do you mind if I ask you why you think you have the right to ask a me to judge myself or to discuss the thoughts of my mother who is deceased. I personally wouldn't do that, but you feel that you somehow can. Strange, but maybe a bit rude?
-
• #15838
Because I spend money restoring and then advertising the bikes and that is not always obvious to the eventual buyer anyway I was trying to find out if a post could be reopened to edit.
Then make it obvious.

Yes that would work... Dear buyer here is a list of all the expenses involved in running my business.
This is getting boring!
-
• #15840
This so much.
-
• #15841
So given the actions you perform on each bike are not super-specialist frame repairs, you think it's ethical to deceive the buyer into thinking they're getting a bargain rather than allowing them to decide whether your markup is fair given the original value of the bike?
If you're doing this as a business you should have access to trade accounts and bulk purchasing so that even after you've paid the necessary VAT and income tax, your offer is still a good deal for the buyer even when they know the original price.

Yes that would work... Dear buyer here is a list of all the expenses involved in running my business.
If you don't know how to market and sell benefits, you need a career change. You may be a good mechanic and restorer, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, but you should consider working for someone else where you will use your skills and they can deal with the sales, marketing and general operations.
This could turn into a PR nightmare for you.

• #15843
Did you read the previous posts... I didn't buy the bike on here..
-
• #15844
@chickenleaverpuller #rep you have come a long way.
-
• #15845
His advice isn't specific to here. Being a ripoff merchant makes you a cunt globally.
-
• #15846
You wouldn't need to give your life story and every little detail. People on here understand that restoring bikes will cost you money. Perhaps before and after photos, showing the condition you received the bike in and how it looks now would illustrate that in a clear and simple way.
Transparency will do your business model the world of good. Looking as if you're trying to hide something will damage it irrevocably.
-
• #15847
Yes that would work...
People in retails have been doing this successfully for eons, so can you.
-
• #15848
Anyway thanks for all the advice, not the personal stuff, but I do see where you are coming from. Maybe it would be better if there was a classified section that way everybody, buyer, seller, knows where they stand because it isn't immediately obvious and there is no buyer guidelines that I am aware of.
-
• #15849
But you are talking to a chicken. A CHICKEN.
-
• #15850
And by the way I have not sold bikes on here just a few parts at a very reasonable price if I remember correctly.
If it's an issue and the forum would prefer only buyers who don't sell bikes for a living it should be stated somewhere I guess
