New boy alert!
After seeing some of the awesome looking pompinos on here, and being in need of a 'clothes horse' to use up some of the spare parts I've had lying around, I decided to join the steel team as a change from the carbon bikes I usually ride. At the moment this bike is built to look good really and is of no real use for anything (no brakes and freewheel combo) but I intend to build it more cx style soon. Here is my freshly built pompi! Any more in the Scottish highlands??

Hello thinking about getting a pompino v4 for mostly riding in the forest but also road use.
if it works out I ll build one for my sister.
i am on a budget but I like performance parts.
Here is what I am dreaming of :planet-x
-Shimano Dura Ace BB-9000 Bottom Bracket Cups
-pompino v4 large
-Cinelli Vai Anatomic Drop Road Handlebar
-Mach 1 Omega Rims On Shimano Tiagra Hubscrc
-tektro mini v-brake
-crank brothers iodine 11 seat
-crank brothers cobalt 3 seatpost
-crank brothers cobalt 3 stemI am not sure about the wheelset and the drive train.
could you guys help me out to find a quality drive train for less than 100 euros ?
(I am talking of chain+crankset+cog+bb)
the drive train needs a good enough ratio to handle road and forest use in a climby city (but i have good legs)
Special thanks from Belgium. -

I believe the Shimano Alfine is €65 at Rose, it comes with a BB so that should leave plenty for a cog and chain.

I'd just see what kind of ratio you normally run and go up a couple teeth in the back to compensate for off-road use.

For the drivetrain maybe a 2nd hand chainset off here for £50, new Shimano freewheel (£20?) and a cheap Wipperman chain (£10).
Should be in around €100. Do you really need Dura Ace BB cups?

thanks alot for feedback.
no I dont need the dura ace BB it was just super cheap.
I am hesitating between the stronglight on planetx, the mighty single on rose, alfine on rose or secondhand here.
so lets say the drivetrain is done, what about the wheelset tiagra hubs on omega rims will take a beating ? thanks alot. peace -

The omega rims are far too narrow to have a fun crossing around.

@lemonade @lucyh Here is the bike. Sorry for the delay in upping pix. Will give you a full rundown of the specs later, I need to do some work now, been sick for the last five days.
The bike is slightly modified since the pics - there is a normal chain on it now (my gf. needed the halflink chain for her tiny dropouts) and there is a different stem and bars on it (still drop bars, they are about an inch narrower) with hipster white bar tape, but otherwise its as below. @Full_Metal_Sprocket I am not interested any more in selling just the F+F. Whole bike only.More here:

sweet, thanks kev. only question would be if there was any srs damage from polo,i only remember you saying the front wheel had taken a couple of dings, but everything else was fine. still interested, cheers!

There is no serious damage from polo - most of the components on the bike have never seen polo action. It's been used as a single speed bike around town for the last year or so, and prior to that was used as a tourer, took me around the Netherlands for ten days, before the Alfine seized up with rusted guts.

smashing

Not only is there no serious damage from polo, but as Kev is allergic to wet courts, it 's never been out in the rain.

Are they road bb7's or long pull levers? In case you change your mind about splitting I'm interested in the brakes.

Those of you who use your pompino for SSCX, what tyres are you using? I just did my first CX race on a pair of 35mm rocket rons and picked up enough mud to fully jam both wheels!

And decent rear cable hanger options for the V4 frameset?
Can't seem to find one in 29.8 -
• #4424
How old is your Pompino? I use Michelin Muds on mine, as a) they come in 30 mm width and b) I need the clearance as there isn't a lot of space around the BB shell.

Question: Are 172.5 cranks ok to run with a Pomp V4? Hoping it won't give too much toe overlap.
Here is mine.
