  • Will do some searching

  • The Durano I think have a reasonably wider contact point, need citation on this, but the Bontrager AW2 have a massive contact point with tiny sidewall suitable for wide rims, the lips on those actually protect your rims from getting dented by pinch flat.

  • Just bought new Durano Plus

    Pricey...

  • Likewise and a tad on the heavy side, but no punctures so not going to complain too much.

  • The AW range sounds pretty decent Ed. Nice touch on the 'aerowing'

I am quite tempted by the durano plus they sound good but definitely porky. 125 grams heavier than the Contis.

@edscoble The problem with more exposed sidewalls is greater puncture potential? Or not good for the rims?

  • Puncture, the problem is that the sidewall aren't meant to come in contact with the tarmac, especially when cornering and get cut up quite easily, we had a fair numbers of customers finding this out the hard way because the Trek road bike have wide rims as standard, the remedy for this is naturally a bigger contis that have slightly less of a U shape.

Durano are decent tyres and have a reasonably tough sidewall, the Durano Plus is possibly the toughest road tyres you can get, but not comfortable at all according to my ex colleague.

  • Thanks again. All good info

  • Why do Schwalbe tires have such fucking large logos?

  • Hansi Schmidt gilt als Erfinder des verzögerten Sprungwurfs.

  • Because hideous MAMIL chariots and their ostentatious wheelsets also have large logos SO EVERYONE HAS TO SHOUT TO BE HEARD HEY LOOK I'M RIDING A FUCKING CERVELO WITH MAVIC COSMIC WHEELS WHICH SHOP DO YOU RIDE WITH HEY DIDN'T I SEE YOU ON BOX HILL THIS MORNING I WAS LOADING MY FUCKING CERVELO INTO MY JAGUAR SPORTWAGON LIKE TEAM SKY USE BECAUSE I THOUGHT MY NEW CARBON SPOKES WERE MAKING A FUNNY NOISE HEY NICE TYRES I HAVE THOSE WHAT PRESSURE YOU RUNNING

  • Chill babes. They're clearly identifiable for some free advertising innit.

    #marketing101

  • When #marketing101 is in direct opposition to #aesthetics101, a chunk of your market disappears.
We don't all buy our tyres on aesthetics, but when something is almost wilfully ugly (which Schwalbe tyres are) I have a hard time paying top dollar (which Schwalbe tyres are) for it.
It also doesn't help that navigating the manufacturer's website is the online equivalent of stumbling around the Amazon warehouse after all the staff have gone home.

  • Ok.

  • I'm logo-averse too, despite being a MAMIL, the bugger is they're pretty damned nice to actually ride.....

  • I'm hearing good things about the Durano Double Defence. Releasing next year I think. That said the One are apparently quite robust. I might just have to swap out the RiBMos

  • The Schwalbe Lugano 23c and 25c are doing a good job on widewide rims (19mm internal, 23,5mm external).

  • I am on mile 1200-something on Schwalbe One 25c clinchers without any issues. Lovely tyres. Cheap if you buy from Germany.

  • I have sworn by the Bontranger Hardcase Racelite for nearly a decade, and have been largely puncture free, but my last pair is nearly the end of their working life.
I know they have been discontinued and there is the AW range that seeks to replace them.

Anyone running the Bonty AW range?

    thoughts/opinions etc?
