  • Brilliant Pompy Chicken stuffed with Haggis! Anyone who can average 15-16mh on a pomp must have thighs like a pro bodybuilder. A very entertaining and hugely enjoyable read.
So I need to get into training to push my 55 year old self to do something like this. I think though a more sedate 50-60 miles per day would be my aim. I'd better start saving up for carbon forks.
    Thanks Pompy

  • Given that there are now about ten* (marketed) disciplines of 'MTB', you're going to have to be a bit more specific.
On a front-sus bike, the HT angle changes as soon as you sit on it.
Add to that the fact that the arse-end of a Pomp is really quite short, and I'm guessing** it won't make the world's most surprisingly amazing XC/Cross ripper.
Waste some dough trying if you like though, living vicariously can be great fun.

**based on seeing nothing like it, at all, wearing front shocks

  • ^^ csb

  • Thanks for adding resolution.

  • I suppose I'd better take this back

    in light of

though Prolly does admit that the rear end of this Rosko is supposed to be 10mm longer.

  • @lemonade @lucyh
I'm picking up my new (second hand) road bike tonight off @fixedcheese so I'll get to work on the Pompetamine for sale in the next few days.

  • sweet, thanks!

  • cheers :-)

  • Sorry shitty pic. New 44t chainring, salsa cowbells, XT brakes and lizard skins tape.

  • Forks?

  • All-City Nature Boy

  • Is that fixed or free @Mheldring?

  • Freewheel, way more fun imo

  • How are you using those levers with full size v brakes?

  • They just work without any mods etc.

  • Weird, shouldn't the cable pull be wrong?

  • Freewheel, way more fun imo

And what ratio? Might be a bit OT but how do you find 44t up front? I'm thinking of dropping my ratio a bit from 48/18 to 44 or 46.

  • 44x18. I'd say it's too heavy for real cross but it's great for riding in the Amsterdam forest which is mostly flat.

    @lemonade not sure myself either

  • V brakes required a much closer pads contact with the rims to ensure the levers throw isn't that big, is that what you did?

  • That make a lots of sense, if the rubbing is driving you crazy (wheel flex), compressionless housing should allow you to have a bit more room between the pads and rims.

  • Hey guys,

Just bought @harv4130's Pompino. It's a real mix of parts but I've been having a lot of fun riding it around the local trails. Having never owned a bike with cantilevers before, I was wondering if I could get some advice regarding the front brake cable routing. I want to put a shorter stem on and lower the front end, since I'm a bit shorter than the previous owner, but it seems that the cable is already running pretty tight to get into the steerer mounted hanger - what's the best way to set it up?

  • ^ this. Crown mounted > steerer mounted every day of the week.
