Nitromors won't attack chrome. The best technique I've found for using modern Nitromors (which is indeed piss poor) is to abrade the paint, brush on the Nitromors, wrap the whole thing tightly in cling film and leave it overnight. That'll give time for the Nitromors to do its stuff, and will stop it from drying out. Then take it off with a scraper or wire brush (probably best not to use a wire brush on chrome though).

Gloss modellers enamel is quite hard, you'll need to sand it a bit.
I would sand the surface of the paint. Brush on some nitromors, leave it a few mins before wiping off. You'll then see see how quickly it is (or isn't) working. You can apply more 'mors with some idea of when to next clean it without risking the chrome.
I have no idea what nitromors will do to chrome - that's probably worth knowing!
