  • Not true, was the law not to have flashign lights until vaguely recently, changed to say flashing was ok, but not that constant was wrong.

Flashing is more eye catching, so if you actually worry about being seen get something flashing.

But flashing is harder to perceive the movement of (try playing catch with a flashing light in the dark) so best to get both, or something like the exposures that are constantly on but flash brighter...

  • or something like the exposures that are constantly on but flash brighter...

So just been using these for around a week and what a great touch. Particularly like the memory aspect of it. Remembers what you've set it as. Low setting is more than bright enough to even light up the road in front.

  • Pedal Reflectors

Four are required, coloured amber and marked BS6102/2 (or equivalent), positioned so that one is plainly visible to the front and another to the rear of each pedal.

This year im going to be fully lit up ninja. Lights galore and these doing the disco too.

  • @Chak, what lights are you using? Should really get some new ones.

    Thanks all for the info

  • Exposure Trace pack that replaced the Flare. USB chargeable with an on/off button as opposed to the twist action. So far I haven't charged them in 3 days (I ride at night) and they're still flashing green when you turn them off. I've had to angle the front down and put the rear on the seat tube to move it away from eyelines because they're that bright.

  • Thanks will check'em out

  • Same as my lights.

Awesome lights. The twist action was a stupid idea, but since then they are basically perfect... well worth the money (esp as I got mine for pretty close to cost! :-)

  • This is the forum choice for wheel lights ;-)

  • Eighty sheets for bike lights?! 'kin 'ell...

  • First I was spending more than that every year on crappy catseyes that kept breaking (because I had the brackets on a couple of bikes it seemed to make sense to keep buying them even though they were obviously shit)...

Then I went and used the £1-£3 chinese lights but buy 10 at a time so i could just check them when they broke (which was often)... Still ended up riding home with no lights because the three sets of shit lights all decided to break...

I like blackburns, but the step up in quality didn't feel quite in line with the cost... knogs are way to expensive for what they are (hipstertax)... I also like the mooncomet, but the bracket isn't that great...

If you want really good lights you start to run out of options...

I'd rather people bought some lights even if it's the shit ebay ones, but I decided it was worth buying some good lights and in my opinion the exposures are worth the cost.

  • Budget wheel lights: http://www.lights4fun.co.uk/i/q/LL-03P/10-led-pink-battery-operated-indoor-fairy-lights

They're listed as indoor, but I did a dun run in light rain with one of these and it was fine. Battery pack taped to the axle, lights taped to the spokes pointing outwards.

  • Just make sure its all taped down securely, you dont want that wire getting caught in anything as you speed through londons streets lighting the place up.

  • For a few years I have been a fan of Exposure lights, they are well made and very effective if a bit pricey. I reasoned that good kit is rarely cheap.
However, I have just bought a Luu Extreme off of flea bay for £90 and it is, without doubt the best light I have ever had. At 1000lm it is way more powerful than my old Mk1 Toro, smaller with all the modes you could ask for including a disco strobe setting should you get the urge.
    Thoroughly recommended

  • this evening i saw a guy ride past with his back light flashing away, with a crud catcher type mudguard mounted directly above it on the seatpost!

  • Did you mention it to them? Everyone bitches and moans but never thinks to tell people. A deadpan "your battery is flat" works particularly well for people who have no lights fitted.

I told a bloke the other night his seatstay-mounted rear light was almost totally obscured by his rack and panniers.

  • i was walking in the other direction at the time. if i see him again i'll change it for him.

    Always this.

It also make you sound less of an asshole when you mentioned it.

  • It's been in one of the light threads before, I'd like to change the lens to project a cock and balls instead.

  • Get a Kickstarter set up, I'd invest in this

  • Maybe a little rotating end to swap between a cock and balls, pair of tits, the word cunt, a cartoon shit and Jeremy Kyle's face.
