  • Fingers crossed for no seat clamp cracks...

It's a Track Champ, it's gonna crack. They shoulda called it the Crack Champ.

  • Am I missing something here or should this bit not be here? It's preventing the bearings going in and I think it's a part of an old headset. Gonna have to have words with the seller about removing parts and lubricating things properly.

Edit: sorted. Looks like he did a bad job of getting the old bearings out. Cleaned it up a bit and the new ones have gone in fine (though I suspect the same thing will happen when I remove them).

Wheels arrive tomorrow, then some pro vibe bars then we're good to go down at the drome.

  • How well well my Precursa cope with dirt track, neglected 'cycle path', a few tree roots and a bit of gravel?

It currently has a Tektro front brake and calliper with 23mm Gatorskin hardshell folding tyres. It has a pre-drilled Chinese carbon 3T replica road fork.

I've only ridden it on road and have recently had to replace a tube due to a tiny bit of grit/glass being embedded in the tread.

  • it won't be comfy on 23's

How well do you look after your bike?

    Just stick fatter tyres.

  • Can you recommend me any? I like the weight of the Gators - around 220g.. I think if I end up going to a 800g tyre for instance it'll feel sluggish. I'm on 48x18 too which may need to ease up a bit for that sort of uneven riding?

How about puncture protection.. gators do go up to 28s but they are stick real slick tyres?

Have any of you guys ridden this sort of path on your precursas?

  • Current guise, new wheel set soon

  • You can always get Gators in 28mm, I would recommend Rubino Pro in 28mm as the pattern would be better in loose gravel.

You can ride slick on towpath, as long you don't ride as you usually do on the road.

  • Schwalbe ONE 28c - took care of me fine on 100k of swedish gravelroads. The 28 fits inside the precursa road fork.

  • I ride about 60% off road and put up with the discomfort and weight of 25c Marathon pluses.
I would rather have sluggish tyres than have to fix flats every other ride. Where I live it is very stoney and even Ribmo's and the like puncture often.

A light fixed track bike actually makes a very fast off road bike as long as you are not planning on any rock garden or mud infested routes.

  • Slack-Champion

  • With winter fork, you can easily go 32mm F&R.

Track bike have similar trail to CX bike which is why some people find them quite fun on the towpath.

  • My red one

  • Doing it right!

  • Could do with just a touch more seat post though.

  • bike looks sick, seat looks sweet but painfull

  • Might do with a little more nose down.

  • Needs rider

  • Oh yeah, finished this.

Exactly what I was looking for for the track. Stiff and twitchy, and sprinting felt a lot better than on my steel frame.

  • My Dolan(s)

  • That Pro stem is niiiice. What is it?

  • The stem has a long name like G-vibe dot com sprint Cavendish

  • Looks awesome. Would you mind showing some closeup pictures of the tape at the dropouts?

  • So.. here is yet another 'what size precursa should I get' question! I'm just shy of 5'4, with a 30inch inseam. Planning on getting the precursa for a general town bike and occasionally track when I can get there. I'm thinking either 50 or 52 though in light of this thread and long tt chat should I be going for a 50?
