• Had 22gb of temp files at one point and somehow Windows 7 and 5 apps is 48gb? When it used to be about 20 when I first set it up.

Have you got a big page file and hibernation file? pagefile.sys & hiberfil.sys

When I was looking at why a clean install of Windows 7 was so large I found that each of those files was set by default to be roughly the same size as the system RAM (16GB each in my case). I got rid of the hibernation file (I don't use hibernation) and cut the pagefile down significantly (it's rare I'm going to be using all the RAM) and got rid of 20GB plus.

  • Cheers budyy, someone else mentioned this in another thread, think they are going to talk me through it all this eve, I'm like a mum on wondoooowsss... I assume hibernation is like sleep? I think OS X sleep files are a few gigs too. I have 8gb ram so apprx 16gb used by this lark would make sense.
