I feel your pain. I have being using Windows to game on my rMBP and its driving me insane, feels so unintuitive and you cant lick on a single damn thing without installing spy/malware and a virus or two.
Had a couple of melt downs and I am sure something is seriously wrong with it still. Had 22gb of temp files at one point and somehow Windows 7 and 5 apps is 48gb? When it used to be about 20 when I first set it up.
I dont want to sound like a fan boy, I actually really like the look of Windows 8, and the Nokia Windows phones look great, but I do hate using Microsoft products with a passion.

Have you got a big page file and hibernation file? pagefile.sys & hiberfil.sys
When I was looking at why a clean install of Windows 7 was so large I found that each of those files was set by default to be roughly the same size as the system RAM (16GB each in my case). I got rid of the hibernation file (I don't use hibernation) and cut the pagefile down significantly (it's rare I'm going to be using all the RAM) and got rid of 20GB plus.

Yea I wouldn't say "hating with a passion", but had to deal with some serious viruses twice this year on this windows 7 machine, and more than enough little bugs and hickups.
Also when I look at Yosemite, I really have to ask myself why I still deal with this ugly shit.
Windows 8 is a joke.
On the desktop/laptop I have used Solaris Unix for 8 years, then Windows for 6 years, then Linux for 5 years.
Windows, yeah proficient... but no more than Solaris or Linux.
I guess I'll get used to whatever weirdness OSX is. I've tried a Mac before, but it drove me insane trying to re-learn the keyboard as every other OS uses precisely the same shortcuts.
