Afraid nearly all those folding bike within that price range will be dodgy, so best to go for those second hand Dahon that have yet to be recalled.

'Much cheaper' than a Brompton is a false economy. There are cheaper folders, but avoid going super cheap.

My parents are after a folding bike for use on canal towpaths while boating.
Something much cheaper than a second hand Brompton, but preferably still decent quality and easy to fold.
