I suspect 3T weighs them without rim tape or stickers and then a little bit of +/- of their scales... maybe the specific gravity of Italy is different to the rest of the world?
It doesn't really matter though, I certainly couldn't notice their supposed weight.
Took them for a spin this morning and found no negatives. Certainly they are not the most sprightly wheels but not that noticeable. Once up to speed they fly along, feel very smooth and solid. The main benefits I found was their stable feeling, gave the bike a really planted feel and no movement when sprinting or climbing. I would feel much better smashing these around than some comparatively priced carbon. -

It's barely heavier, which is moot.
Upside is that 23mm felt as comfortable as 25mm while it ride like 23mm, without feeling the tyres squirm under lower pressure, no point riding a road bike if you're getting all kind of vibration from it.
ditto to 25mm feeling more like 28mm, and barely notice any squirming (I ran 55psi front and 65psi rear with 25mm tyres on 23mm rims).
The only two downside is that certain tyres may not be ideas on wider rims, Continental for instance have a narrow surface that expose the sidewall more to the tarmac, some tyres are not ideas to run at a lower than recommended pressure.
The other downside is running 23mm tyres on 23mm rims, you're more likely to damage the rims when you hit a pothole despite not being able to pinch flat, some tyres such as the Bontrager AW2/3 have those "aero" bit that actually work well in preventing the rims from getting chipped.

Pacenti rims are sooooo stupid.

Fuckin' A, way too weak and can't really true them up without cracking them.

You can't get some tires on them!

Cheers Ed! Really helpful info. =)

Yes you can, just use electric tape for rims tape and push the bead in the middle of the rims.

Those techniques make fuck all difference to fitting a Veloflex on a Pacenti. They just do not fit out the box. You have stretch them like an old fashioned tub.
Literally the dumbest rims ever made.

But of course!

You can't get some tires on them!
Which reminds me again that I have sadly forgotten the KΓΆlsch dialect term for the ultra hip bikes my dad and his mates rode on the rims after WWII.

Can you ride a bike all the way to Argentina?

Tychom, I do Open Pros on deore XT hubs and ignore the braking surface. I have been pleased with the two sets that I have had.

I'm running a set of Archetype's on Dura Ace 9000 hubs and am in a dilemma as to whether to continue using them through the winter. The rims I'm very happy to replace in the spring if they need to be, but it's the hubs I'm worried about. Does anyone have experience of these hubs in winter conditions in terms of how weatherproof they are?
I do have a couple of other wheel options, but would prefer to use these if possible.
I have a set of RS10's and a set of RS80's, but don't like the fact that a broken spoke will leave me stuck out in the sticks trying to find a train station.

Sounds like pretty much the perfect winter wheelset. Bearing seals on those hubs are about as good as it gets, and fairly easy to service if they do end up a bit grindy.

^This. I'm running Campag Record hubs laced to OpenPro for my winter wheelset. Quality Cup & Cone seals are awesome. Maybe give them an overhaul before/after winter, but I wouldn't worry too much about it

I opened up some DA7800 hubs I'd been running for 4 years in all 4 seasons for a service just because I couldn't believe they were still running worry free and the innards were pristine. Grease hadn't even discoloured.

Same experience with the 7850. Shame I've destroyed the rims.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear.
Thanks all. -

Rims are a disposable item - hubs are not :)

These new Fulcrum Racing 5 LG look pretty good for wide, factory wheels.

A fair number of 2015 bicycles now come with the wide Fulcrum (Genesis and Cannondale come to mind).
Comfort, puncture resistance, aeros depending on the rim. Not really much of a weight penalty.
