Dr Who's got a bit niche?!

Geez.
If anyone knows a better lock, let me know. But I guess it's just not possible.
From reading about this quite a lot (and only later finding that pretty much everything I'd researched was duplicated in GA2G's "Locks That Work" thread), the Abloy PL362 and a chain from Almax or Pragmasis.

whatever it is he has there, i need it!
I forget my keys all too often. -

All locks can be picked. The more popular the lock the more know-how there is on how to best open them. I can show you a similar video on ABUS locks-- done by a guy selling special keys for 20 EUROs.

The same guy sell sets to break into cars.

According to the police the main function of the lock is to prevent non-thieves from stealing. That is why most insurrance companies care that it was locked and less so with what. The reason to get a good lock is to try to raise the standard a bit and suggest to a thief that the "other" object is easier takings...

You do all realise that lock-picker has spent many hours, in the comfort of his own home ( probably ) practising on that one specific d-lock?
They're not about to walk up to your bike and pick your lock in the same amount of time & with such ease.

^^ First vid is a just a bump key, most crap locks fall for that. The keys can be found all over the place.

Given the popularity of that model why not as gannef specialize? The Krytonite is not a cheap lock so is it not logical to assume the objects have value? The lock is also very popular so the chances of finding one are also excellent.. Common and with a valuable bounty..

I can hear (in my head) Barry (RIP) shouting "Two good locks.".
(His locking strategy was to use two good, but different, locks both locking the frame to something solid capturing one wheel each. That way a single lock being chopped/picked/etc doesn't result in the bike being lost, only a wheel. By using two different locks you're requiring the thief to be comfortable and adept at picking/smashing two different locks.)

Yup. But each are pretty specific. A Master Lock bump key is different from an Abus.. But not just "crap" locks are prone to them... Its a basic flaw in pin-tumblers. Any pin-tumbler can be "bumped". Disc tumblers can't be "bumped" but they are still quite pickable.

His locking strategy
Two locks, a staffy on a rope, and a local urchin duct taped to the top tube.

That is, unfortunately, probably very good advice. It raises the bar quite high. Probably best if one of the locks is "exotic".

I didn't mean 'that particular model of lock'. I meant the actual lock in the video.
After all, not all Kryptonite keys are identical :-)

Can combination locks be picked so easily?

For those of you considering commuting on a £3k+ custom bike and then using a £145 padlock, a £100 chain and a £70 D-lock to secure it outdoors;
There will come a point where the person who really wants your bike realises it's easier to attack you rather than the locks/chains. Be extremely vigilant when locking and unlocking. -
• #17
Read the comments on the video, the picker suggests that the type of lock attacked with that tool is something someone can pick up rather rapidly.

Read the comments on a youtube video??!
Never again D:

Get a Vicious dog strap it to your bike job done. Resolves the issues of theft and finding a place to lock it up "simples".

Put out fires, can it?

It eats fire!

I often wonder about this myself. Not because I own a bike of (even remotely) that value.. But because some day I probably will.
How common are thefts when locking/unlocking/stationary generally? My housemate had a knife put to his throat at a set of lights for his Aprilia. Granted it wasn't a pushbike but I know people with bicycles worth a lot more than his RS125...

someone pulled a knife on me for my bike.
i simply rode away...
wheels beat feet -
• #24
Where did that happen?

Unless they catch you….. :(
In the end, this is probably possible with any lock out there... just to remind everyone that you can't have 100% security.
