A nice (and hopefully straightforward) project.
I think radial would look rubbish on a bike of this period.

Thanks for the feedback. I asked specifically for that. Wasn't sure. I like a radial wheel, but wasn't sure on this how'd it look.
-

I like radial lacing too; just not on a bike of this period.
The ends of stems with a conical expander, tend to splay out beyond 22.2mm: just slacken the expander right off and squeeze the ends a little.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Need to get a tool for that (a plier), my bare hands weren't enough :D

Jubilee clip?

Could work.

These parts are great!
Can't wait your complete bike -

Me too!!

This needs pink Benotto tape :)

But that frame looks like a proper Columbus SL (as I assume it's a track one)?
Where that picture comes from, looks lovely!!
-
• #12
Yes, I assume it is a SL tubeset... this is the link:

Suggestions on how to remove the old tape glue from the handlebars?

Acetone (nail polish remover) or I've found penetrating fluid works, so I guess good, old WD40 should do the trick.
Or a hairdry/paint gun.

Think WD40 does a decent enough job, Elbow Grease is the main ingredient do !
Nail Polish Remover
Petroleum Jelly
Toothpaste
Hand Lotion
Hair Spray
Baby Oil (mineral oil)
Vinegar (soak cloth, apply then leave for awhile–even overnight)
Rubbing Alcohol
Windex
Baking Soda & Water Paste (just rub in gently then wipe off with a warm wet cloth)
Lighter Fluid
Kerosene
WD-40 (set for 5 minutes)
Paint Thinner
Rubber Cement Thinner
Artgum Erasers / Pencil Erasers
Peanut Butter
Vegetable Oil / Olive Oil (set for about 2 hours)
Margarine
Cooking Spray
Mayonnaise (leave set for a few hours or overnight)
Goo Gone
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Furniture Polish
Eucalyptus Oil
Tea Tree Oil
Perfume / Aftershave
PVC Pipe Cleaner
For surfaces that you’re afraid to damage, try heating the goo with a hair dryer then wiping off (firmly) with a wet warm & soapy cloth.
Duct Tape (press on goo firmly, life tape up quickly, repeat as needed) -

Just got WD40 today :)

My gf must have acetone somewhere...

I'm constantly stealing my gf nail polish remover! I guess she came up with the idea I'm actually drinking it.
PS: nastro bianco o rosa poco importa, questo Moser sarà stupendo! ;)

Mine will be upset when she'll find the bottle empty :D
PS: decisamente :D non vedo l'ora :p

+1 for pink benotto tape.
Gonna look good though, im excited.

I've actually ordered some pink one too. Will put it on and check both and decide when time comes.
Also will probably start today some cleaning with WD40 and some other cleanin stuff -

Damn, the only bottle F.Moser on eBay right now is the wrong one :(
It's F.Moser pantoed, Cobra branded (!) but 51.151 :( -

Ok, tonight I'll start the cleaning process.
Let's see if I'm able to get sparkling results as I've seen in many threads here! -

Hi there.
So I decided to scrap almost all the ongoing project I had (Hugh Porter and Guerciotti ALAN, but not the La Variable) to go for my first Italian project.
It started when I bought @bellabici 's Gipiemme F.Moser-pantographed Gipiemme Dual Sprint here on the forum.
The groupset included a Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport rear and front derailleur.
All in amazing conditions (except for one Gipiemme pedal missing the dust cup.)
I originally intended to put it on the Hugh Porter (using many of those components [no BB for example as it would have had Italian threads, whilst the HP comes with British BB shell]).
But then in a private e-mail @bellabici stated he also had the frame that was originally carrying this lovely groupset.
The price was fine and he had it restored properly too.
I thought it would have been a shame to part them, so I got the frame too.
It's an easy project as I've got everything I needed to build it up except for a couple of pieces:
The seatpost bolt was quickly resolved as eBay happened to have this on sale:
While the Italian made Cobra cage was almost mandatory and period correct (also eBay):
The bar tape was also quickly solved here on the forum as @Drew_Hubjub had a white pack for sale for cheap.
I have two San Marco's saddle waiting for a bike already. The black Rolls that was first mounted on the Holdsworth Mistral and the Ergo that was on the Venom.
The F.Moser San Cristobal was originally sold to customers with a black saddle and white tape, and I've seen pictures of Moser's bikes (not Aelle of course, but same geometry) with blue bar tape.
I think I might go for the white Ergo saddle though as it'll match the white tape and I find it more comfy than the black Rolls.
As for the wheelset, all the F.Moser San Cristobal I've found online, and in a 1984 catalog, were sold with tubulars with Mavic RIMS (I found two examples one with Monthlery Pro and the other [mine] which came with Mavic Speciale Sport, which I think was a cheaper [single eyeleted] model than the Monthlery.)
I went for a couple of Monthlery Pro rims I found on eBay while @NorthLondonLight provided me with a couple of tubulars.
These will be my first tubulars and the first wheelset I'm gonna build from scratch.
I think and hope I've measured the Gipiemme Dual Sprint hubs properly and it seems I have to order two sets of spokes:
(from http://leonard.io/edd/ where I entered the data)
Complete wheel data
Hub: Gipiemme Dual Sprint, rear
Left flange: 44.5 mm
Right flange: 44.5 mm
Centre to left: 36 mm
Centre to right: 20 mm
Spoke hole: 2.6 mm
Rim: Mavic Montlhery Pro
ERD: 616 mm
OSB: 0 mm
Size: 700C
Tension for 36 spokes
Crosses - Spoke length left - Spoke lenght right - Tension ratio L/R
0 286.7 285.1 55%
1 288.1 286.6 55%
2 292.2 290.7 55%
3 298.4 296.9 55%
4 305.7 304.3 55%
As this won't be a tourer, I was thinking of going radial front and three crosses rear. Thought?
Well this is it :) time for a few pictures (which you can find here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/anidel/sets/72157646491197974/)
Love the pantographed Francesco Moser headset:
For some reason the stem won't fit into the forks, I think it just needs a little squeeze
Of course I can't wait to put this on the road of London, but I'd like to give the components a proper clean first and re-grease first.
