• Hi guys,

Have an old peugeot record du monde which was the my first single speed build. I have a standard 7 quid 68mm shimano BB and an ambrosia pista crankset. I rode it from Belfast to Paris so around 380 miles and had real bad problems with creaking and cranks coming loose which I assume was to do with the BB, so I'm basically looking some recommendations for a decent quality fair price crankset if possible!

    Thanks
    Marc

  • Like Ed says, what you describe is unlikely to be the fault of the components.

If you rode some distance like that, the chances are that the tapers of the BB and/or cranks are now FUBAR and fit for the bin.

I've got unbranded Andel cranks on my Dawes: good value for money and look the part on a vintage build, being a copy of Super Record.

Available all over the web: you can pay three figures to have BLB scratch their name into them, £80 from Velosolo, or £70 from Hubjub.

If your chainring is 1/8", you can buy the arms only for £40.

Add a Shimano UN-55 (£8-odd from Chain Reaction).
