I like radial lacing too; just not on a bike of this period.
The ends of stems with a conical expander, tend to splay out beyond 22.2mm: just slacken the expander right off and squeeze the ends a little.
Yeah, that is what I was thinking. Need to get a tool for that (a plier), my bare hands weren't enough :D
