  • Yeah I see your point. I'm not that bothered about investment as I've got too many other costs going on right now, a decent new suit being among them, but could stretch to £145. I'll probably just make sure I look after my loakes and just wear them. It's the snow and sleet I'm worried about though...

  • I just picked up two pairs of black, smart works shoes for £170. They are Barkers from a shop on the road between St Paul's and Holborn viaduct. Pretty fucking pleased as the same pair in Jones's are selling for £160.

I nearly bought Loakes but similar quality level. I was going to replace the old pair from Jones but as the leather on the top had been cracking and No replacement discount thought better go somewhere else.

  • That doesn't really compute for me. Did you pay £85 for a pair of shoes that have cracked?

  • No, those were my old shoes from Jones. I went in hoping for a discount on a new pair but got told they'd had to get sent off.

  • Shiny shiny Meindl... not bad for 7yo boots.

Plus the shoe shine was fairly entertaining. I wish I'd have been able to take a before photo. They were so dusty and dirty.

  • my first attempt at renovating my Loakes...

hand stitched the middle sole to the welt with red thread, and added Christy's :)

  • They look great, Murts... Lovely job...

  • thanks Joe.

  • Tidy!

  • Nice!
Do you need more practice material?
    :)

    DIS

  • Murtle the cobbler, it has a certain ring to it.

  • Did you have to buy a new hammer, Murts? #lol

  • But do they have cleats?

Nice work. Are the cobblers going to be selling your leatherwork in the shop?

    I can see the resemblance.

  • thanks all they are soo comfy, they feel like trainers....the white won't last long!!

  • There seems to be a variety of opinions on the Christy.
Beyond the look of them, what is your experience with these soles when it comes to traction in the wet?

  • they don't slip, even when they are wore down, I wore a pair of redwings with the Christy soles, all last winter, no probs,

  • Thanks, having a think about that.

  • Mine used to slip when they were really worn down, totally fine with new soles tho'...

  • Haha!

    Top stuff, murto

  • .

  • This kinda sucks!
What do they even use to shape the heel counters nowadays? Plastic?

  • grenson?

  • Yup. I probably wont buy grenson again. Although they have been really great boots for the couple of years they lasted. :(
