If you don't carry some kind of lock with you and use it, that's going to happen again and clumsy running will not be your only similarity to Forrest Gump. If you know you're out on a ride where it's only going to be a casual short stop with the bike in sight, doesn't have to be something heavy enough to slow you down - while still being enough to slow him down so that you'd have been on him before he even got on the bike. Tiny insurance cost compared to the price of the bike.
