  • What an idiot.

  • Yeah but it's so damn impractical I barely use the damn thing. And now it's shiny and (mostly) finished I don't have the urge to spanner on it the whole time. I'd obviously need a new 'project' to accompany ze german...

  • def. i'd love a 997 as the daily and a sweeeeet classic convertible for the sunny days.

  • Yeah more likely the Mrs's daily. I've got a motorbike for that.

4 seater, kind of practical. Making more sense all the time....

  • I'm a bit bored of the Volvo, it's still hugely entertaining when you put your foot down coming onto the motorway, but I think a lot of the enjoyment I got was getting it fixed and then tuning it.

  • Restore something

  • What?

  • Something easy(!) with good parts, forums, etc.

Bgt v8? Tr? Tvr? Alfa 105?

Something you'll enjoy driving once done.

  • I really like the idea of something with very low limits - like that new Caterham with the Suzuki triple, rather than something with huge grip that would only let go in extremis.

  • Anyone know of any isuues with buying a used VW Golf with a remapped engine?

  • Loved that rallycross vid. Eff me, that turbo 4x4 'scort was a game changer. It literally accellerates twice as fast as anything else, if only he could keep it on the track or stop it blowing up!

  • Nope petrol, pm'ed.

  • Bored of a big, fast, comfortable car?

You could go the opposite direction (like the mentioned caterham, which would be awesome)
or what about something like a small, light, skinny tyred sedan? Old BMW 318 for cheap or a even a LT celica from 76 as it happens.... can you get them here?

    could be fun?

Anyway, low limits, rear drive, four banger, little bit rough so you don't mind fixing stuff yourself. Sounds like a fun recipe

  • weight weenie a caterham dammit

  • My 2013 Scirocco has the DSG box. 2.0 177 derv engine. I would imaging the 2.0 Audi engine would be pretty simmilar?
I fuckin loves it.... total gamechanger! Will never buy another modern car with a manual gearbox. You can be a lazy bastard and just let the box do everything, or you can put it in manual and drive like a dickhead.
    Best of both worlds!

  • This.

I have an 8 speed DSG in my new BMW. Wouldn't every go back to a manual for a new car. Paddle shifters + sequential stick + lazy auto mode = win.

  • I drove a 330d Msport with that 8 speed box down to Brighton and back last year.... That beemer was the 'seed' that made me want a DSG!

  • 4 speed manual box with overdrive in 3rd and 4th...... for the win

  • It's so lovely.

Mine is the 220d... plenty of power and the box is silky smooth.

  • When do you use the paddle shift?

  • Is the BMW shift still the manual box with hydraulics?

I liked the alfa with paddle and button change on the steering wheel.

  • Who did the remap? How did they do the remap.
