Strong work, quite happy now I've never partaken of one of your posted rides, would have been kicked out the back and puking my guts up in short order..

Glad to read you're not too battered.
Just out of idle curiosity, apropos of nothing in particular: what jersey were you wearing?

OT as it was this afternoon and not a commute, through the medium of film quotes...
"You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me it's a full time job. Now behave yourself."

purposefully driven at and then swerved towards by a fat, bacon sandwich eating cunt in a van as i was filtering down the outside of traffic on a rammed to the rafters croxted road this morning. fuck you, i hope your foetid, grease lined arteries explode and you drive off a cliff.
Silver van with something like "Perfect Partitioning" on the sides/back?

My commute has 7. It was early enough that the flow of traffic was in favour of them being green. 3 in Nottingham, 2 in Mansfield. 2 on the outskirts of notts. The rest is dual carriage ring road or the A60. It's a great commute. The way back is fantastic fun.
I don't jump red lights. -

'fraid i didn't clock any livery, possibly on account of it heading towards me at a quite a click. the unmarked, with poorly stacked bits of scaffolding poking out at drunken angles variety.

My point is I'm not keen on getting run over by whatever vehicle is behind me because some idiot crosses the road on a green without looking. I'm on a bicycle, I'm not in a car, if I get rear ended it's going to hurt.
Clearly your mind is made up but in the interests of your readers' safety, I would ask them to consider what it would feel like to have a 90kg (say) dead weight catapulted into your face at 30 mph (say). Because that's what it will feel like to hit a pedestrian if you don't brake. You should expect some amounts of injury and death. In practice, the pedestrian is unlikely to run out in front of this hypothetical car behind you, but if they do, the driver will likely be braking too. Head-on impacts are to be avoided; better to take your chances with a possible clip from behind.

I'd like to think the vehicle(s) behind me would be braking to, but if I thought every motorist/cyclist on the road around me was absolutely flawless at controlling their vehicle and were completely alert to everything on the road then I'd probably be dead by now.
I'm certainly not advocating head on collisions, I'll do everything possible to dodge a ped but I'm also not too fussed on taking "chances" with traffic and hoping all that all I get, as you so casually put it, is a "clip" from behind.

Doesn't sound so great when you put like that does it?

Ate tarmac on the commute today. Came up to a roundabout ready to turn right, had slowed but had just started to accelerate as I went to go. Unfortunately the road to the right is obscured by a dirty great bush/hedge, so just as I did a van appeared. It wasn't indicating but it was in the left lane, so I jammed on the brakes and did a lovely tailwhip before getting better acquainted with the road. A van driver behind asked if I was ok. Pride bruised but not much else, and wondering what I could have done better after a fairly conservative ride in greasy conditions up until that point. The tyres are very slick and I've got the back out a few times under heavy braking even in the dry.
