The incompetence of people is driving me mad ...
- The estate agent, who agreed to organise a specialist damp survey on both ours and the vendors behalf, made us wait for two weeks only for them to only get a report done on one of the four walls that we both wanted checking.
- The bank don't seem to know how their own mortgage works, to the point that I received three contradicting pieces of information from three different sources in one hour.
Utter fuckwits. It's not like this is the biggest purchase of my life.

Actually I heard the other day that Antic have gone into administration, I think they have expanded too fast.
I walked past the Heathcote while on a property hunt in the area, and thought straight away it looked shite, and that the drinks deals etc weren't appealing at all. Shame if that is deliberate. They've done a good job of turning people away if so.

Lost my shit with the solicitor's assistance on the phone this morning. They told me last Wednesday they had all the info they needed and everything would be with me last Friday, or at the latest this Monday. Nothing, tried to get in touch on Monday, no bugger was available. Grabbed a random assistant who said there was a note on my file saying completion date Friday 24th October. Short notice, but what the hell. Rang yesterday, was told that the paperwork could maybe be with me yesterday evening. I said "great, but if it isn't, I at least want to be told when it will be". Nothing.
I rang this morning, spoke to the assistant who said " oh, are you just looking for an update?" "NO, I DONT WANT A FUCKING UPDATE, I WANT MY FUCKING PAPERWORK! GET IT TO ME THIS MORNING AND IF IT ISNT, GET YOUR SENIOR PARTNER TO TELL ME WHY NOT!"

obtain further advice and quotations. Although my opinion of Market Value would normally
be given in section K, it is not possible to do so because of the likely extensive nature of

If it just chimney fondling or roof repairs or such it is quite doable and you lever cost of the works off what you pay for the place no?

Nope, spoke to the mortgage advisor. The amount of work that needs doing is way more than we can afford and the lender is not willing to give us a mortgage for this property.

Losing it with someone at the solicitors isn't going to speed things up, in fact the opposite is more likely.
It's frustrating that the whole process takes so long and seems to attract incompetents by the dozen, but being civil helps smooth things.

It wasn't the speed I was moaning about, it was the lack of communication and misinformation. Anyway, paperwork through and still looking good for the 24th so long as I pay them by 22nd, which I can.

It may be coincidence but being civil for four months got me nowhere. Expressing my frustration more vehemently than i had before, got me my paperwork.

We're up to the stage of reliance on solicitors too.
Ours received the draft contract 6 days after the vendor's solicitor sent it. When our estate agent called up to find out where it was before it had arrived, they said they had sent it second class, and that 'that's how they send all their post'.
Luckily there isn't much on the contract or in the other documentation which looks like it will cause trouble, so assuming searches etc. go alright we're getting somewhere I think.
This part is just frustrating, there's an empty house we want to move into, they want to sell it and we have the money, yet it's still going to be weeks (at least) before we can get in it.

Apparently we got some information back from the searches today:
-We live in an area where we may be liable for chancel repairs. It's £80 for a further search to confirm it or around the same for chancel liability insurance. No brainer I presume, but annoying further expense.
-We live in an area with moderate flood risk, and a small risk of subsidence. The house insurance quote I have obtained using the address is affordable and includes insurance against flood and subsidence with a £1,000 excess. Do we need the further searches? (£100 each I think) Does the excess sound excessive?
