Been running round in a S1 fulvia since saturday. Have to convert convert the gearbox to the remote gearchange off a s2 so has a shorter throw as the car is a race/track day car. For road use it has the standard steels with ropey michellin x tyres that are an unknown age. I can spin the wheels in any gear in the wet! It is running a mix of 145r14 rears and 155r 14 fronts with tubes as the steel rims aren't for radial even though the car was designed to run radial tyres.
So I've been roped in to rebuild a set of solex 40's as the spindles have so much play as the spindles are bushed and not bearings as in webers and dellortos. So time to buy a funny drill bit and then ultrasonically clean the carbs, new rubber inlet manifold. Install some longer lower suspension arms, off a HF, to increase front camber.
Repack the wheel bearings and install carb shut off springs so that if the accelerator cable breaks the carbs shut off. Then a general service, set the cam timing and see how the camchain is.
Not bad for a car that cost more than an E type to buy!!!
First time in an age that I have look forward to working on a car and not having to d0 any welding.
