You sort of go around Gorebridge, having come out through Bonnyrigg and then its pretty much into the countryside. You barely go through any villages until you hit innerleithen the other side of the hill so make sure you take water and snacks with you. The scenery is so stunning and the descent so much fun when you've made it over, 100% recommend riding it!
Beautiful part of the world to be cycling, but those a-roads are pretty grim! My GF's mum lives in Peebles so I've done quite a bit of cycling around there (both on the roads and at Glentress) - massively recommend this route if you want to go out that way but avoid the cars, the road over the hills is stunning and the descent down to Innerleithenn is breathtaking. There's then 6 miles of very pretty freshly-tarmacced traffic-free path into Peebles following the Tweed, plus you go very near the Traquair Arms if you want to stop for refreshment... http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/peebles-sct/peebles-to-edinburgh-route-328422383
