Since my jaunt through Italy last month, work and work-related travel has kept me off my bike other than for my short commute. Indeed, my road bike is still in its box awaiting a thorough cleaning and reassembling.
I did a couple of hours on my turbo on Saturday after flying in in the morning and was planning a gentle ride out on Sunday.
While out to dinner on Saturday evening, however, I received a text from our very own Arvy asking if I was up for a ride on Sunday and specifying an unearthly hour. I accepted and so it was that I met the young chap at Highbury Corner and pedalled off fixed to Ware and back.
He sets a fast pace does young Arvy and at times I wondered whether i would managed to stay in touch. He relented a little and I was able to grab his wheel and let myself be dragged for 53 miles.
Our average speed was 16.5 mph which might not seem much to many of you but when compared with my average speeds for the exact same route in March on a geared road bike, it is an exceptional improvement which i put down to Arvy's iron discipline.
A very enjoyable morning out and a good kick start to the lungs heart and legs.
Literally dozens of cyclists out many in huge groups. Bit nippy.
