• ~~Dear fellow forummen and -women,

it is with heavy heart and resentment that I have to put one part of the two egged twins for sale.
Last semester of uni is going to be full on savings due to dried up govt. funding and as such I would like to liquidify this bike-asset.

    From title:
    1978 Gazelle Champion Mondial in 753, 54 c-c toptube, 54 c-t seattube.
A 753 bike is rare, a 753 Gazelle is really rare, and this should be one of the first 753s made by Gazelle since they only started using it in 1978. 753 was arguably the best available tubeset, with the highest tensile strenght on offer.
The framenr is 3214550 making it a 1978 frame.
I can't find a similar vintage 753 Gazelle on the net and haven't seen one the last stalen ros's.
All specifics, butterflybrake bridge, x stay bridge, roto bracket and zeus crown (and stickers..) show this is a genuine, OG livery 753.

    Frame:
1978 Gazelle CM (as built by Jan Legrand, I believe he was the only builder at Gazelle who built 753. Especially as its such an early one..)
    Fork/Headset:
1978 Gazelle 753 with supercool Zeus 200 forkcrown / Campagnolo Super Record
    Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
    1977 Campagnolo NR 53/48 (hardballer) / Campagnolo NR/SR
    Shifters/Front derailleur/Rear derailleur:
Simplex Retroshift (best performance!) / Campagnolo NR (a bit before 1978..) / Campagnolo Super Record 2nd Gen. (brev. 1978)
    Brake levers/brakes:
Campagnolo NR (OG hoods!) / Campagnolo NR/SR with OG pads
    Pedals:
Campagnolo NR / Christophe L clips (one broken though, river popped today) / very nice white Lapize straps
    Handlebars/Stem:
Cinelli Criterium with crest, 40cm c-c / Cinelli 1R 11cm, rare early version, old style logo
    Saddle/Seatpost:
Cinelli Unicanitor / Campagnolo Super Record fluted, 27.0mm (753!)
    Hubs//Rims/Tires/QRs:
Campagnolo NR/SR / Mavic MA2 (early 80's) / Conti Grand Prix 23mm / rare straight levers Campagnolo, rear is a bit dodgy though..

The mix of Nuovo Record and Super Record was normal at the time. Same goes for the upgrade to the Simplex shifters, hence me using those.
I aimed at periodcorrectness with this build, with a sprinkle of awesome/opportunism.
Awesome is for example the straight levers, where actually post 1977 they would need to be curved...
Opportunism is the FD, which I just imagined to be stock lasting from '77.
The biggest non period correctnessness would be the rims. One could desticker them and nobody would know the difference but I haven't gotten round to that.

Parts are generally used but in very to quite good nick. The photos will attest to that. I had the buffer out for everything which would need a spruce up and that certainly aided cosmetically.

On the whole, the frame is in good condition. On further expection today though I noticed small picks and grazes which come naturally with the age of the frame. I've tried to picture them carefully, but noticed that they do make the frame look worse then it really is.
There is some logical rust near the cable guides on the tt but that is mostly covered by the brake cable. There are also some rust spots on the seattube from a formerly fitted pump which I though I should mention.
There are also two very shallow dents on the right underside of the tt which I just noticed under the light with it hanging on my wall. I reckon this happens with a frame this age and seeing the thinness from the tubing. In general, this goes unnoticed, but I will later add a photo to be frank.

As you see from above story, I've been involved with this bike and gutted to sell..

For sizing; I reckon you all know what your size is, but I for one am 1m80 with 31" inseam and I happily ride this bike due to its relatively long tt of 54cm.

A lot of detailed pictures here**.

For this unique bike I would like:

i could get to making a new one, but not now since the internet mysteriously broke down in my house like it does every 4 days.

    thanks for the comments guys!:)

can i add a clause that whenever the one im selling her (the 753 is female, thr track male) will sell it back to me when theyre sick of it? like, if they ever..?

  • oh, and i forgot to mention, it will come included with two period correct campagnolo crank bolts.. i dont have a 15mm cranktool, hence i couldnt install them. but i trust you do.

  • That's a beauty, good price too... luckily its a couple of cm's to big for me - phew!

  • Beautiful!

    Good luck with the sale

  • really in a two-way about these compliments; flattering but also contemplatative material if selling it is right..

anyway, ive gotten to photographing the "dents" due to request and i struggled which is a good thing.

i think this photo shows them at their worst (sorry for non-sharp and terrible whitebalance, im still getting the hang of camera..):

  • i was actually planning on arrowing it to show where they are but this way it makes a good guessing game and shows that calling them dents is too much. dimples?

  • oh, and are more people struggling with the pics? otherwise i can get to flickr-ing them.. Bond007 pm'd in a bit with extra link which should work..

  • Great, I will check out the piccies

  • ok, i had several signals that the pics dont work so sorted me a flickr.
