does anyone know of a very long cut, packable windproof cycling jacket with ok rain proofing?
the sportful hot pack 5 if significantly longer (or slimmer for that matter ) cut would be ideal.

There was talk about reproofing a gabba jersey with nikwax. Has anyone tried/ know if you could waterproof a neoprene jacket that isnt waterproof to begin with?
I'm looking at the tribord decathlon jacket that someone posted about somewhere (cant find it with the current search now) as a really cheap alternative until I get to ask my club manager about a velorevolution (our team clothing company) hydra which looks like a very promising cheaper alternative.
Or if anyone is selling a gabba 1 SS in large, pm me :) I prefer the castelli printed across the chest than the new one.

is the gabba 2 a good choice for commuting with a backpack? or is it really just for 'proper cyclists'

I just bought this; hoping to get another 3 years* like my last gore tex ..

*the path is still going strong; I am just 2 sizes smaller :P

Hi-Viz gone out of fashion again?

the cut on my oxygen jacket is well weird, it's way to short on the front even with a super tight jersey but goes down to my knees on the back.

have used my nice-but-a-bit-pricey-even-on-sale Rapha City Rain now for the past 6 weeks and i absolutely love it. Maybe even in love with it.
fits really well on and off the bike. doesn't look like a cycling jacket until you're actually cycling. It has vents. It's stretchy in directions that count and not stretchy in others. Really nice cuffs and comfy neck. It has minimal branding. The foldy pink bits are good fun too and function well for their intended purpose... which is to look steeze of course.

I tried both M and L in oxygen 2.0; Maybe they changed the cut .. M was perfect .. how small does it pack? I could fit Path in my jersey pocket I am hoping this packs down even smaller ..
-
• #785
i can pack my L down to about half the size of a jersey pocket.

that's what I like to hear :) Path was/is the best cycling jacket I ever owned hoping this tops it due to it being the right size, cut and packability. Rapha Hardshell is so close yet so far ..

Hardshell is great, until you actually do some cycling in it; at which point it becomes a bit:
I have absolutely no idea why they didn't include vip vents - would have made it actually useable.

Ordered a Sugoi Event jacket for 100 Euro from Bike24 which is available in 'gifted descender' size only. No silly hood.

Cycling in a neoprene jacket might actually give you heatstroke. And a terminal case of BO.
-
• #791
Gotta ask, was that a deliberate tounge-in-cheek reference to a sous vide and Rapha's marketing?
If so chapeau.
-
• #792
hmm ok, will give that idea a miss then. Thanks, hadn't thought of that for some reason!

How about a casual warm-ish jacket so I'm not wearing an orange ptj to the pub?

Commuting wise, that ICNY jacket looks the bollocks.

Yeah endura urban softshell - epic

Same...worries about boil-in-the-bag I mean. Fabric is 'fairly heavyweight and water resistant coated Nylon fabric which is durable for everyday use' - so boil in the bag.
I already have a mavic goretex paclite for riding...commuting and all other non-ride-riding is a different question I think.
Relaxed fit means you can shove extra absorbent layers on. In reality i am gonna sweat buckets whatever I wear, so it doesn't really matter so much. I can see how you could get the nike one for the same as the ICNY if you're interested: http://www.myrunning.eu/Nike-SHIELD-FLASH-MAX-JACKET-Jacket-619422-010-d9586.htm

Only available in XL, and in 3 weeks, and from a shop claiming to be an Authorised Nike E-Shop (which makes me think it definitely isn't)
TBH, as much as I would love that Nike jacket, a Pro Team Race Cape is more important for me at the moment.
My thoughts exactly on eVent fabric; completely waterproof, much lighter and more breathable than gore-tex and less reliant on a DWR treatment to stop the fabric from soaking.
I've had a Karrimor Elite Alpiniste jacket for a year now and worn it for work couriering all through winter. Very impressed, however the collar/folding hood could be a bit comfier but for £85 I don't think you could do much better.
