  • Event 3-layer is the best compromise between fully waterproof, breathable and hard-wearing in my experience. My six-year-old Rab Latok Alpine weights about 400g - not light compared to the thinner membranes, but much more durable. Event actually benefits from regular washing, and ironing or tumble drying improves water repellency. Very easy to care for.

  • My thoughts exactly on eVent fabric; completely waterproof, much lighter and more breathable than gore-tex and less reliant on a DWR treatment to stop the fabric from soaking.

    I've had a Karrimor Elite Alpiniste jacket for a year now and worn it for work couriering all through winter. Very impressed, however the collar/folding hood could be a bit comfier but for £85 I don't think you could do much better.
