Joules pubs are pretty nice actually, there are a couple in the bit of north east Wales I come from.

  • This one is The White Horse in Overton - varieties of SRs included honey and mustard pork, good old pork and spicy pork. Every Friday after 5.30 'til they're gone!

  • Round The Island... I'd love to take some photos but I wouldn't want to bore you with pictures of high-rises, sterile park connectors and endless traffic lights... having said that there isn't much else you can do actually on the island...

  • Great cycle from Edinburgh to Peebles and back yesterday. About 50mile round trip (80km)
Extremely tough going on the way to Peebles as it is mostly up hill, had a head wind and some of the worst tarmac I have ever ridden on.
    All worth it though.

  • Oof. A 70 miler down to Felpham, next to Bognor, fixed through the night and through the rain and over the top of Bury Hill. Bruce was there too, trying not to get his cast too wet. Most of us made it to the seafront for breakfast. Top stuff, but I am now an incoherent mess in need of sleep.

  • On the Wirral right now, family ride. Perfect.

  • Since my jaunt through Italy last month, work and work-related travel has kept me off my bike other than for my short commute. Indeed, my road bike is still in its box awaiting a thorough cleaning and reassembling.

I did a couple of hours on my turbo on Saturday after flying in in the morning and was planning a gentle ride out on Sunday.

While out to dinner on Saturday evening, however, I received a text from our very own Arvy asking if I was up for a ride on Sunday and specifying an unearthly hour. I accepted and so it was that I met the young chap at Highbury Corner and pedalled off fixed to Ware and back.

He sets a fast pace does young Arvy and at times I wondered whether i would managed to stay in touch. He relented a little and I was able to grab his wheel and let myself be dragged for 53 miles.

Our average speed was 16.5 mph which might not seem much to many of you but when compared with my average speeds for the exact same route in March on a geared road bike, it is an exceptional improvement which i put down to Arvy's iron discipline.

A very enjoyable morning out and a good kick start to the lungs heart and legs.

Literally dozens of cyclists out many in huge groups. Bit nippy.

  • Another 100 miles in the peaks with 8k feet of climbing, 2 cafe stops, one with a HUGE wedge of carrot cake after descending into the mist of Winnats pass. Not my Strava data as my garmin is kaput, but that of Kris who i was out with http://www.strava.com/activities/206427390

  • Beautiful part of the world to be cycling, but those a-roads are pretty grim! My GF's mum lives in Peebles so I've done quite a bit of cycling around there (both on the roads and at Glentress) - massively recommend this route if you want to go out that way but avoid the cars, the road over the hills is stunning and the descent down to Innerleithenn is breathtaking. There's then 6 miles of very pretty freshly-tarmacced traffic-free path into Peebles following the Tweed, plus you go very near the Traquair Arms if you want to stop for refreshment... http://www.mapmyride.com/gb/peebles-sct/peebles-to-edinburgh-route-328422383

  • That looks like a great route. Thanks for sharing.
Does this route take you through Gorebridge yeh?
This may well be my next longer distance cycle as I'll be avoiding the A703 by all means.

  • You sort of go around Gorebridge, having come out through Bonnyrigg and then its pretty much into the countryside. You barely go through any villages until you hit innerleithen the other side of the hill so make sure you take water and snacks with you. The scenery is so stunning and the descent so much fun when you've made it over, 100% recommend riding it!

  • Can you send me a detailed mqp picture?
    Cheers

  • No idea what mqp is I'm afraid, but if you click through to the mapmyride link I sent above you should be able to download the route in various formats and mess about with it as much as you need to...

  • Think it was you +1 I saw on the Parkway first thing thru the fog, about 8.15am?

    (Spotted in mcr thread >>>>>)

  • Could well have been, was likely with Maciek in his eastern european eagle top. Loving Autumn atm!

  • Parkgate?

  • Meols Parade I think that was taken at, we got around to Thurstaston (nice cafe) before heading back inland to Bidston. Will be back to explore more another time.

  • One waz in Rapha, other in a brighter colour. Was ace once fog burnt off.

  • As far up as that. I used to live in West Kirby, so cycled around there a lot.

  • That'll be me in waffa. Love the Wirral/ Pleasure Peninsula/ Wizz Wazz. Lots of good riding and good pubs. Should have got a parkgate ice cream!
