Thanks, I've just rang up 101 and made an initial report. I'll have to go down the station at the weekend to make an official statement to get a reference number though. Obviously I should've reported it sooner, but it's the first accident I've had where I've had considerably damage to my bike.

Make a report to the police immediatelty. Firstly, this is likely to end up as an insurance claim which may get stalled if there is no report number. Secondly, if they decide to report the issue to the police with a different version of events then your claim will be fucked. Thirdly, and less important is that the incident will be added to existing heatmaps of incidents in the city which may support future planning.
Following that go back to the scene and see if there are any cameras at all that may cover the area and see if there is any footage available. Even if the owners of the cameras say there is no useful footage, demand it anyway, they can't reasonably refuse.
