David Nugent deserved a recall for this kind of game.

Never gonna happen, H-Bomb... It's every player's dream to play for their country, who would sign a contract like that?
I don't know, if all the top clubs joined together and did it, i'd imagine most would choose to put their day job above their country.

Nah...
Woy looks pleased, the sandbagging, old twat...

Stop being such a mealy mouthed apologist for the abolition of international football just because players get injured on international duty. So lovren got injured, get over it.
World Cup, European championships, copa America, African cup of nations. Those are trophies players want to win and they come so seldom they should have every opportunity. -

"Let's kick (what's left of) the passion out of football!"
It does have a nice corporate ring to it...
-
• #111333
Given how Lovren has performed so far this season, you'd have thought most Liverpool fans would be delighted he's set to miss a few games.
-
• #111334
I don't care about Lovren being injured any more than any other player. It's a fact of having international players. I accept that.
And I'm not saying I want international football abolished, it's a nice distraction every 2 years in the summer break, but beyond that I don't care about it. And if I was running a top club, I wouldn't either.
Right not, top level football players don't have to make the choice. But in some other sports they do. And guess what they generally choose? Their club, not their country.

@John_H you only come out with this guff when a Liverpool player goes down, talking of national competitions as "a summer distraction" seems a bit rich, didn't stop you from going all plastic German when they won the World Cup.

I think that second half was pretty good but playing Sterling in the point role doesn't make sense to me. Nathaniel Clyne should be pretty miffed about not getting the nod over Chambers, who was sloppy in possession and played too safe.

The club season should finish 2 weeks earlier and there should be 4-6 weeks of international football at the end of each season.
That means: any players injured can recover over the summer, international managers get a solid chunk of time with squads and it doesn't fuck up league football. It would also mean that supporters look forward to it, rather than loathe it. -

Quite a few Arsenal fans are pretty chuffed Ozil is out...

Thats quite a lot of football every season. No winter break?
-
• #111341
International games should be interesting. What's uninteresting is the qualification rounds.
Also, getting lectured off a plastic kopite German/English/Canadian web nerd who jumps on every passing sports bandwagon is a bit fucking much.
kisses.

They are twats then. He's a quality player, who would be an asset to Arsenal if they played to his strengths.

@jaw, @Tenderloin, rumour mill grinding away again as we head to the next transfer window
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/10/rumour-mill-transfers-tottenham-klaas-jan-huntelaarwould huntelaar be an upgrade on soldado, gut feeling is that they are similar players?
-
• #111345
You're joking right?
If he scores goals then he will be an upgrade. Steve Sidwell and Kevin Nolan scored more goals than Bobby last season ffs. -

@dan, I know K vH is in better form than Soldado, was asking more about style of play, since MoPo is reluctant to play Soldado up front by himself and sees him needing another striker to play off which changes our formation. Adebayor despite not being in the best of form himself is first choice, can K vH do the same thing therefore not requiring a change in formation or will he need a partner up front?
-
• #111347
I think the sports bandwagon thing hurts the most there ;)

K vH
Since when does Jan start with a v?
-
• #111349
What?
Personally I think Spurs are at their best when playing a loan striker and supporting AM / WF's - Adebayor does an okay job of being a focal point for others to run beyond and an escape route (when he can be fucked to run/turn up) - but he doesn't score much in that role and has a habit of coming to the ball or drifting to the wing.
In the role of a classic number 9 Huntelaar would be more of an 'in the box' player when playing alongside Adebayor, or he could comfortably play on his own, on the shoulder of the last defender. He's 31 so he's not going to have a team built around him, but for £3m he represents decent value if he can be relied on to bang in 10-15 goals a season - which is more than can be said for Soldado. At the moment, Spurs need more goals in the team.
Yup... So booooooring...
