Personally, I owned one, and I found it horrific, it was too heavy and rode like crap. It felt like the seat tube angle was too slack and I was always leaning over the back wheel so couldn't get any power down. However, that's personal preference, so I guess if you love them then even £1,000 isn't overpriced. My advise would be that if you're thinking of getting one and are thinking about paying the hipster tax premium then make sure you try one for more than 2 miles first, as you might not like it (like me)
