  • The Birchfield people may have a point. Have you walked along the Regent's canal recently. Not pleasant thanks to those Racy Sts. That's not really a "space for cycling"

  • Is anyone aware if anything happening with this this?

The vast majority of buses still seem to have Cyclists stay back stickers on them. Surely it doesn't take that long to remove some stickers.

  • There's no law requiring the drivers to removed them from their vehicles.

There's already load of 3rd party version of that stickers to excuse their poor driving now, the damage is already done.

  • I'm not so much thinking on the back of transit vans and whatever, mainly buses where there was talk previously of an agreement to remove and replace them.

  • From TfL's wording, they were asked to removed them, not ordered to.

  • The wording seems fairly strong here:

Guidance will be provided on the reverse of the freight stickers about
    (a) which vehicles they should be put on and (b) the approximate
    location it should be placed.

Guidance as to which vehicles the freight stickers are suitable for is
included on the FORS website at point of ordering the stickers.

We are drafting the website content now and will update this once the
final sticker design is known. Draft text will be shared with you(*)

The members of the CLOCS working groups (which include the FTA and
RHA) have agreed to support the new freight sticker.

The new freight sticker will be sent out to all FORS members with
instructions to remove their old sticker and replace with this one.

A statement was sent out to all taxi and private hire trade
associations on 19 June to inform them that these stickers should not
    be used on their vehicles.

At the end of June we advised all our taxi and private hire inspection
staff that the cyclist stay back stickers are not approved (so they
will be told to remove these if found).

We will send email updates to taxi and private hire trades to remind
them of the correct cycle safety stickers that should be displayed
    (e.g. the ‘dooring’ stickers).

We are pursuing legal action against the individual selling the
    current freight stickers on eBay.

The Buses team will replace all stickers on buses on a rolling basis
    until they are all updated.

The last line in particular, which clearly isn't the case in reality.

I was wondering whether the hold-up was in agreeing new wording or if it's just stalled somewhere.

  • It takes me ages to peel them off - you only get a minute or so at each red light.

  • a lot of them are doing this now. which is just showing off really.

  • Noticed one of those 'pulls over' stickers today.

  • Yeah I saw those, a very polite way of saying that the drivers are not held responsible for not checking before pulling in.

  • At least those ones are factually correct, rather than the previous ones which basically meant "cyclists fuck off".

  • Yeah I saw those, a very polite way of saying that the drivers are not held responsible for not checking before pulling in.>

It's a polite way of saying it's a bad idea to undertake. Which it is.

  • It's a polite way of saying it's a bad idea to undertake. Which it is.

Tell that to the people who painted those narrow cycle lane to encourage undertaking.

  • to be fair, as drivers, professional drivers too, they more than likely check all their mirrors out of habit and necessity. they shouldn't have to contend with people riding on the inside really. i don't see what the problem is with a polite notice.

it's not really absolving them of anything, if there's a collision its going to be grief for both sides in many ways.

  • They shouldn't have to contend with people riding on the inside really.

They shouldn't have to content with peds running around, drivers cutting them off, dealing with tube strike, etc. but they do.

  • don't add to the list of dickheads and stay out of their way then. pretty easy

  • Good point. We all have a right to undertake buses as much as we want without anyone pointing out it is stupid. Sorry Ed, I've been blaming the victim again.

  • How do you think having this sticker will effect a bus driver's likely behaviour when they choose to pull-over fast? Are indicators or a mirror-check more or less likely?

It's a passive aggressive way of saying it's a bad idea to filter on the left (which is sometimes perfectly safe) pass on the left, be overtaken by a bus, or be on the road when they want to pull-out.

  • It's a passive way of saying it's a bad idea to pass on the left

Exactly this. When I pass buses, I am always wary, because I know they pull out / pull in very often. I don't pass on the outside until I'm sure I'll be safe. I NEVER pass on the inside. I give buses right of way because they are usually carrying more people than me, people who might otherwise be in cars or taxis filling up the road. Sure, buses sometimes pull dangerous manouvers, but no more than any other vehicle.

In my experience, cyclists are much more unpredictable than buses. I dont, of course, assert that my personal experience proves any wider point, but it has definitely affected my attitude, and my behaviour. I'm doubtful that bus drivers behave differently because of a sticker. I'm hopeful that cyclists will.

  • i suspect you'd be hard pressed to find anyone on here who hasn't had a bus driver pull over seconds after being overtaken. kennington road / brixton road is rife with this sort of cuntery.

the fact that this sticker doesn't appear in the drivers cab flags it up as victim blaming horseshit of the highest order, regardless of the words on the fucking thing.

  • i don't see what the problem is with a polite notice.

Cyclists in the asl, driver left hooks, gets out and says "I've got stickers!"
