So he was waiting around at the gate longer, having taken less exercise? Winner.

I didn't say he was there first. It was a 25min walk to my gate, I walked past him while he was still eating a meal and he zoomed ahead of me just as I was arriving at the gate. Given I was hungry and hadn't had enough time to have a decent meal, his way seemed to have certain merits.

In the 'hand luggage only' wars it's about getting on early so you don't end up having your bag shoved in the hold because there's no space left overhead.

And also those times when you have to make connecting flights in a hurry because you've got to get from random place A to random place B on the single flight that will get you there in time for a meeting. Scooter man doesn't seem so bad there, either.
