• Depends, some airlines/airports it's first come first on at the gates. In the 'hand luggage only' wars it's about getting on early so you don't end up having your bag shoved in the hold because there's no space left overhead.

    (Un)Luckily most of my work travel was long haul so I always had checked bags and no need to rush.

    But some airports is was better to rush when collecting luggage and going through immigration. The difference between first and last bags off the conveyor could be worth up to 2 hours less queuing at immigration at SFO airport years ago, especially if the two Asian flights landed around the same time.
