Story:
I recently bought a lot of stuff from a collector and in the lot was this frame (with some original parts), a Colnago Tecnos Mapei team edition. The bicycle belonged to Tom Steels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Steels ) who rode it. Later on the bicycle ended up with Rik Van Linden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rik_Van_Linden ), who owns a bicycle shop in Wilrijk, Belgium. Most parts were stripped at that time (and sadly also the name tag) and it was set up on a Tackx trainer. Many pro's would come over there to train, one of them being the late Kristof Goddaert http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kristof_Goddaert ) .
As you can read it's a frame with quite some history. Plan is to rebuild it period correct.
Specs
Colnago Tecnos, Mapei team edition (AD10 paint but with team personalisations)
Size 58/59 CT
Eyelid for a race number
Came with Shimano Dura Ace 7410 headset, bottom bracket and seatpost, ITM handlebar and stem and San Marco saddle
Stamped in the right drop-out with "M17"
Stamped on the inside of the drop-outs with "3"
First help I need is to determine the exact year of the frame. This is what I know:
One detail though: Tom Steels started riding for Mapei in 1996! Did he start with a 1995 model, or isn't it a 1995 bike at all?
Anyone with knowledge/catalogs who can help out?
Anyone with pictures of Tom Steels or other Mapei team members with the same bicycle/frame?
I have been promised a picture of Tom Steels with the bicycle, so I'm awaiting that.
